posted Jul 21st, 2026 - The most recent NSL News update on the Fun Flag generated enough attention and feedback to reveal that it was spotted in 2025 at the World Cup of Speed Skydiving in Austria. The flag is clearly still alive and intact, making it ready to return to the event where it was originally created many years ago—the Formation Skydiving competition. Excursions to other locations and events are encouraged and welcome, but keeping it away from its place of origin violates the unwritten ethical rules surrounding the Fun Flag. Hopefully, it will fly again at this year's FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026 in Eloy.

The same update also noted that the Fun Flag was in the possession of the Irish 4-way Open team Fast Air and the Danish Divas 4-way Women team, along with several other teams that proudly displayed it publicly. The FAI Dubai Mondial 2012 was the largest outdoor world championship in the history of Formation Skydiving since 1985. It also featured the 4-way Women event for the seventh time since its introduction to the FAI competition format in 2001.

Representing Denmark in the 4-way Women event at the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012, the Danish Divas also managed to get hold of the Fun Flag. They were next in line after NMP PCH HayaBusa had presented it at the top of downtown Dubai. Exactly how the Fun Flag was passed from one team to the other remains unknown.

More recent NSL News evaluations of major FAI events have included the combined leaderboards for horizontal 4-way Formation Skydiving competition. All four events—4-way Open, 4-way Women, 4-way VFS, and 8-way—use the same numbers and letters to define the sequences for each round. However, only the 4-way Open and 4-way Women events perform the same maneuvers assigned by the 4-way dive pool.

Male and female competitors can be combined in any lineup in the 4-way Open event, while the 4-way Women leaderboard includes only teams with female competitors, except for the videographers, who may be male and are eligible to participate in the 4-way Women competition. Combined leaderboards for all teams competing in horizontal Formation Skydiving have therefore been possible since the 4-way Women event was added to the outdoor world championships in 2001.

However, the concept became an NSL News topic only in recent years. It traces its roots back to the period before 2001, when AAA Class leaderboards naturally included teams with every possible gender combination, including all-female lineups. The NSL News update on 11 April 2013 noted "that female competitors are still in full control of UK 4-way." The combined 4-way leaderboard for Dubai 2012 marks the beginning of the same retrospective evaluation of all major FAI events held since 2001.
