posted Aug 31st, 2026 - Today (August 31st) is a very special day for Julia Swallow, not only because it is her birthday. She also made her first jump on this very same last day of August in 1991, making it an especially memorable birthday gift. It is also a coincidence that her NSL Profile is being published on an August 31st, exactly 35 years later.

The above is the opening paragraph of a brand-new NSL Profile of Julia Swallow, a current member of British national 4-way Open Class team SOAR, freshly awarded British outdoor championship gold medals.

Julia "Jules" Swallow will also attend her next FAI Outdoor World Championship in Eloy 2026 this October, ten years after her previous one with Satori XL in 4-way Open at Skydive Chicago 2016 and twenty years after her first one with Perris Airkix in 4-way Women at Gera 2006, where she won a gold medal at this FAI/ISC event.

However, Julia Swallow does not point to either of those two world championships—or any of her other world championships—as her favorite competition. As a true competitor, she prefers to remember the highest outdoor scoring level she reached with Satori's 2009 lineup (Katie Woods, Aaron Faith, and John McIver) in a 10-round meet at the ESL Championship 2009, just one month after winning the British Outdoor Nationals 2009.

Satori in Round 3 at the ESL Championship 2009

The new Satori lineup of 2009–2010 won the British Outdoor Nationals for the first time and qualified for its first FAI Outdoor World Championship at Menzelinsk 2010. The event in Russia then became Julia Swallow's first world championship in 4-way Open.

Satori's 1st place on the AAA Class leaderboard at the ESL Championship 2009 was still not enough to win the ESL Spirit Sword, which the Dutch delegation took home after winning the other three NSL/ESL competition classes. However, the performance on British home turf in Hibaldstow contributed to the team's confidence heading into the upcoming world championship season.

Julia Swallow's current team, SOAR, is probably in a similar situation. Their 20.1 average last week is the highest posted average among the teams that could be in contention for the unofficial amateur world championship title. In fact, SOAR can probably be expected to perform at an even higher level, as they allowed Kairos, in 2nd place, to win one round and tie another. There could be enough room for SOAR to move closer to Satori's highest 10-round average—or perhaps even reach the 22.0 level Satori posted at Menzelinsk 2010, although that performance was heavily supported by a Super Sequence in Round 3.
