Did You Know...

... that the Paranodon AAA Class leaderboard had more to offer than just Airbus 4-way?

AAA Class awards at the Paranodon Cup 2026
posted Jun 10th, 2026 - The AAA Class competition at the Paranodon Cup in Illertissen last weekend featured more than Germany's national team in 4-way Open, Airbus 4-way Illertissen, with its current family lineup of Thomas Mack (Outside Center) and his two sons, Tim (Point) and Moritz (Video). The NSL News update on June 8th already covered this story in detail.

Airbus faced little serious opposition at the Paranodon Skydiving Center. The newly available competition videos showcase the ten challenging sequences that included 21 of the 22 blocks in the current dive pool and seven 6-point rounds. The six slot-switching blocks (3, 5, 10, 12, 16, and 17) were spread across six different sequences, while a funneled exit in Round 3 limited the team's meet average too due to scoring 14 points in the round. The competition served primarily as a training event for Airbus on the way to the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026, with another important test coming up at this year's German Outdoor Championship.

There was still a genuine contest taking place in the AAA Class, where Tinder and Paranodon SOS were ultimately separated by only seven points in their battle for second place. The seniors of the Skydivers Over Sixties community recorded five of the ten highest round scores and held a one-point lead at the halfway mark. Tinder then won four of the final five rounds and finished seven points ahead to secure second place.

Tinder were once again supported by Platinum XP member Matthias Kaminski, who resides in the United States. The Tinder lineup remains unchanged from 2023. Matthias Kaminski will soon return to Alabama, where his U.S. team will need him for the Paraclete XP Summer Classic next week. The event is still open to any teams interested in competing alongside some of the best 4-way teams in the world.

The Paranodon SOS seniors were not finished competing after Round 10 in Illertissen. They have already arrived in Poland, where members of the Skydivers Over Sixties (SOS) community gather to compete and enjoy a variety of skydiving events. The program includes a five-round 4-way competition, where the Paranodon seniors are likely to be among the leading contenders.

The lineup in Poland will not be the same as it was in Illertissen. Team member Jupp Kampmann will return to his Inside Center slot after being replaced by Beat Kattenrieder at the Paranodon Cup. Wolfgang Hagedorn will once again provide video coverage for the team in Poland. Jupp Kampmann trains and competes with Fi4na and battled with Dark NeVa for the silver medals at Germany's national outdoor championship last year.

Two of Jupp Kampmann's SOS teammates are former national 4-way champions. Jan Rojek and his longtime teammate Thomas Spielvogel won both the 4-way and 8-way national championship titles at the same event in 1988. Thomas "Spieli" Spielvogel remains active in the sport and is expected to represent Germany in 8-way at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026. Operation Adler is once again considered a strong medal contender and could potentially earn Germany's first-ever silver medal in the event.

Uli Sehrbrock is a former teammate of Airbus member Thomas Mack. The Remscheid 4-way and 8-way teams were perennial contenders at the top of German competition, reaching the 18+ average level and representing Germany in 8-way at world championships. Uli Sehrbrock and Thomas Mack also shared spots on German 8-way lineups and competed together between 2012 and 2016, including appearances at two outdoor world championships (2012 and 2016).

Uli Sehrbrock stepped away from 8-way competition after securing world meet qualification with the Airbus 8-way team in 2021. As a result, he was not part of Germany's historic first FAI medal performance at Eloy 2022. Thomas Mack, meanwhile, joined Operation Adler and helped successfully defend the Airbus bronze-medal position at Crystal Coast 2024. Today, Uli Sehrbrock has joined forces with his SOS teammates in pursuit of victory in the 4-way event in Poland. Together, they hold the SOS world record with a 31-point performance set in August 2022.
