Did You Know...

... that last weekend's AA Class leaderboard proved to be the more closely contested competition?

AA Class awards at the Paranodon Cup 2026
posted Jun 12th, 2026 - The NSL News had already noted earlier that the AAA Class competition at the Paranodon Cup 2026 offered several compelling storylines beyond the performance of Germany's national team in 4-way Open, Airbus 4-way Illertissen. However, the international AA Class standings, featuring teams from Germany, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, delivered the tighter contest from top to bottom.

The three German AA Class home teams—Paranodon's Futura 6.9, Trick and Treat, and Imparable—were separated by just two points after all ten rounds. Futura 6.9 and Trick and Treat were even tied after Round 10, forcing a jump-off round to determine the winner. Futura 6.9, featuring father-and-son duo Andreas and Julius Trögele, entered the final round two points behind Trick and Treat and earned the 1st place by winning Round 10 by two points.

Paranodon Imparable remained neck and neck with Futura 6.9 throughout the first nine rounds and matched Trick and Treat's nine-point score in Round 10. However, it was not enough to join the top two teams in the jump-off. The battle among all three teams had already developed into a 10-round nail-biter before reaching its climax in the extra round. In the end, the more experienced Futura 6.9 lineup handled the pressure of Round 11 better than the newly formed all-female Trick and Treat team. However, the 4-way Women lineup in the AA Class has plans for the near 4-way future in Germany after the promising start last weekend.

The Paranodon Cup 2026 was only the third competition for the newly formed team. Team member Diana Lehnigk said that team spirit is already at a very high level, with all members sharing similar approaches to communication and teamwork. According to her, the strong team chemistry is the most important factor for Paranodon Trick and Treat's future development.

Paranodon SOS videographer Wolfgang Hagedorn is also filming Trick and Treat regularly and tried to boost the team's morale with a bouquet of common daisies before the final rounds of the competition. The Trick and Treat members even took the flowers into freefall, tucking them beneath their altimeters. However, the good-luck gesture did not produce the desired result in the jump-off round, as Futura 6.9 delivered a strong performance while the newer team struggled to cope with the additional pressure.

Once the competition in Illertissen concluded, Wolfgang Hagedorn returned to his regular camera duties with his own team. Paranodon SOS had already signed up for the next five competition rounds at the POPS World Championship in Poland. Trick and Treat were also missing their usual point performer, Liesa Braun, at the Paranodon Cup. Simone Kaster stepped in as a substitute for the meet, while Liesa Braun is expected to return to the lineup in the near future. Former Airbus 4-way competitor and current Operation Adler 8-way champion Alexander Prendinger serves as the team's coach at their Paranodon home base in Illertissen.

The AA Class leaderboard at the Paranodon Cup also featured special guests from Switzerland. The NSL News had already reported an anniversary reunion in an update on 7 November 2023. The complete lineups of Switzerland's Blue Magic 4-way and 8-way teams attended the celebration marking the 40th anniversary of their 1983 4-way world championship title, along with the 8-way silver medals earned at the same event.

Blue Magic member Raymond Gimmi competed at the Paranodon Cup with the Swiss team 4Brain, finishing just six points behind Paranodon Imparable, the highest-ranked of the German AA Class teams in third place. The newly formed 4Brain team won Round 8 outright and matched the highest score in Round 5.

Last but not least, the battle between the two Czech teams at the bottom of the combined leaderboard, Atom+ and TNT, was nearly as close as the duel between the German front-runners that required a jump-off round. Atom+ erased TNT's one-point lead after Round 7 and moved ahead by a single point in Round 8 (49–48), unaware that the score would stand as the final result. Weather conditions prevented the completion of all ten scheduled rounds. After TNT had won every previous meeting between the two teams in 2025, Atom+ claimed its first victory in the rivalry.
