Did You Know...

... that Anion Flux XP and CSC Constellation had their first rematch last weekend?

Skydive Midwest NEXT in action

posted Jun 16th, 2022 - Last weekend actually featured three 4-way competitions. The NSL News covered the indoor meet of the Brazilian tunnel league on June 14th, and the scores of the Paranodon Cup 2022 have been posted, as well. Videos and more information from Germany will follow soon.

The third event was the 2nd edition of the Cloud Games online competition that Skydive Chicago added last year to the regional events of the Midwest Skydiving League by applying the same format that the NSL 4-way Network has been using for many years.

15 teams participated at the first Cloud Games last year, and nine teams used the same ten sequences at the different locations across the United States last weekend. The online host of the event offers the same competition categories that USPA has at the national championships in horizontal 4-way competition: 4-way Open (AAA), 4-way Advanced (AAA), 4-way Intermediate (AA), and 4-way Beginner (A).

Skydive Midwest NEXT were the only AAA Class team in 4-way Open last weekend, and there was no participation in 4-way Advanced this time. NEXT finished with a new team record 10-round average (19.2) and confirmed the team's path toward outdoor bronze medals that the NSL News mentioned on April 27th.

Joanna and the Creepers at the MWSL May meet
The four teams on the AA/Intermediate Class leaderboard of the Cloud Games compensated for the lack of competition in the AAA Class. Only nine points separated the team in 4th place, CSC Constellation, from the winner, Joanna and the Creepers, and there was a 3-point difference between 1st and 3rd place after all ten rounds.

None of the four AA Class teams were new to 4-way competition. Joanna and the Creepers had attended the season opener of the Midwest Skydiving League and finished with a 6.8 average after five rounds in the same category. New SDC Rhythm XP member Keith Conner replaced Joanne Stubbs for last weekend's competition and guided the team to the 8.2 average.

Nicole Land, Michelle Nguyen and Nichole Settles had launched their Air Raid XP team project at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship and continued outdoors with Calvin Falk and Christopher Weber on camera. Only a low score for the fastest sequence in Round 8 kept Air Raid XP from taking the 1st place.

Air Raid XP claimed or tied seven highscores of the ten rounds and still ended up one point behind Joanna and the Creepers with Keith Conner, who had won Round 8 by 13 points over Air Raid XP.

Anion Flux XP - CSC Constellation at the USPA Nationals 2021
Air Raid XP at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022
Anion Flux XP finished only three points behind Joanna and the Creepers and two points behind Air Raid XP. The team from Skydive Sebastian had their own rematch with CSC Constellation and won this duel by six points. Both teams had attended the first A/Beginner Class competition at USPA Nationals last year, where Anion Flux XP won by three points after six rounds. CSC Constellation had actually added a 7th round at Skydive Arizona, as they were tied with Air Force Academy team Fury after Round 6. The Air Force team won the jump-off round and took the bronze medals.

Anion Flux won the USPA silver medals at their first national championships and moved up to AA Class training and competition with a new team member, Felipe Della Giustina, as the NSL News reported on January 11th. They used the Shamrock Showdown for their first meet experiences in the new category.

CSC Constellation made the same move after a busy 2021 season with five meets, including the USPA Nationals, and they improved their scoring average every single time. Natalie Rodriguez and Russell Bayuk were back last weekend with two new team mates, Pressly Bonner (Tail) and Dan Reuber (Point), Patrick Spyrka on camera. Anion Flux XP and CSC Constellation both launched their 2022 season in the more challenging AA Class on a significantly higher scoring and performance level than last year.

A/Beginner Class winner SNE Gripswitch scored higher than Anion Flux XP and CSC Constellation in June last year. They could become the USPA top contender in this category in October.
