Did you know that the rule changes of 2004/2005 had a significant impact on team tactics and scoring level? posted: Oct 8th, 2011 The NSL News moved from the extensive 20-pointer coverage almost as quickly to the 22-pointers as the best teams in the world moved forward. Only the story on 14 February 2011 mentioned Arizona Airspeed's 21-pointer performance at the Valentine's Meet 2011.
It seems as if the scoring progression accelerated when the rules for penalties were changed. DeLand Majik was still forced to pay more attention to accurate performance since each infringement came along with an additional point deduction. The damage of two points for one bust was not worth ignoring the flaws and just move on.
This changed... (more)
Did you know that Aerodyne Aerokart is the only team with 22-pointers and higher? posted: Oct 7th, 2011 The 4way Open Class leaderboard of the World Cup 2011 features a new scoring level in the history of Formation Skydiving competition. It was the first time that a team scored only 22 points or higher in each round of a 10-round competition.
The NSL News has covered the scoring progression extensively over the years, and it has been the 20-point elite club that used to catch the NSL News attention. DeLand Majik was the first team that managed to score only 20-pointers and higher and was joined by only a handful of other world class teams ever since.
The 21-pointer level was naturally the next... (more)

Did you know that Round 8 in 8way at the World Cup had an extraordinary result? posted: Oct 5th, 2011 Round 8 in 8way at the World Cup 2011 was extraordinary. It was the only round of the whole competition where no team had any point deductions. The extended leaderboard looks exactly the same as it did after Round 7.
That was nothing unusual for the two teams on the top of the leaderboard. Neither the Golden Knights nor Aerodyne Maubeuge had any penalty calls so far, and this would not change until the meet would be over. There was actually a third team that performed much to the liking of the 8way judges. The Swiss team VIVA was clean all the way through, as well.
VIVA missed the last round... (more)
Did you know that Denmark enters the female 4way competition with a new lineup? posted: Oct 4th, 2011 The NSL News has covered the competition for the unofficial annual Scandinavian championship quite a few times in the past. The Open Class teams from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and sometimes Iceland have been battling for the Scandinavian top spot in 4way year by year, and the NSL News has been keeping track of it since 1985 when the "modern age" of Formation Skydiving competition began.
Denmark dominated this internal competition for the first decade, interrupted only by Finland in 1987, followed by Norway between 1997 and 2008, until Finland's Pro Team took back the special honor at... (more)
Did you know that Baby Beavers from Wissota spread great vibes at the last NPSL 2011 meet? posted: Oct 3rd, 2011 The NSL News visited the Northern Plains Skydiving League last weekend for the last meet of the 2011 season. Cold but beautiful fall weather welcomed the teams and the NSL News at Skydive Twin Cities in Baldwin, Wisconsin.
It took both weekend days to complete the meet since many tandem passengers used the great weather conditions to get in the air for the first and maybe second time. Host DZ and NPSL Director Mike Betz had originally planned to have a Twin Otter available to accommodate the additional competition activities.
Unfortunately, the Twin Otter had mechanical problems that could... (more)
