posted May 20th, 2026 - The presence of Sweden's national team in 4-way Open, Echochamber, at indoor or outdoor World Cups and World Championships is close to guaranteed. Echochamber was created in 2016, and the original lineup is still active, with a few changes here and there. Former Arcteryx member Mattias Nord, who is actually Swedish-born and originally started as a coach for Echochamber, soon became the fifth team member and fills in whenever needed.

Even in the team's first year, Echochamber already competed for the Swedish delegation at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2016. Mattias Nord was their opponent with Gryttjom Volo at that time, and the two Swedish teams pushed each other to the level just below the medal positions.

Gryttjom Volo did not continue after the Indoor World Cup 2016, while Echochamber established the team's presence for Sweden and became a regular contender for the unofficial amateur world championship title. Echochamber have attended all FAI/ISC events since 2016 and missed only the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017 in Germany and the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in Norway, which was ironically the closest one to their homes in Sweden out of all the events they have attended since 2016. As several other countries, Sweden did not send any teams to participate in the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, which took place in August 2021.

Echochamber at the Swedish Indoor Nationals 2026

Norway's home team at Skydive Voss in 2023, Agera, has been one of the most consistent opponents for Echochamber in the battle for the highest unofficial amateur rankings at outdoor events. The latest Scandinavian duel took place at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025, which featured the closest competition between the two teams in their shared 4-way history.

Both teams then missed the FAI Indoor World Cup this year at Weembi Lille — Echochamber due to Johan "Smögen" Edvall's eye surgery. Echochamber still attended the national indoor championship before the Indoor World Cup with alternate member Mattias Nord, as NSL News reported on March 20th.

Echochamber and Agera are both aiming for the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026, where they will most likely continue their internal Scandinavian rivalry in a similar way to what they showed at Skydive Teuge last year. Both teams are expected to be closer to the amateur top level than they were last year, as each country will be represented by only one national team at Skydive Arizona in October. The finishing order of the national 4-way Open Class teams in Teuge could end up looking very similar to the results at this year's Outdoor World Championship.

Echochamber - Agera at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025

It will be the same Echochamber lineup in Eloy as the one at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024. Johan Edvall will return for the outdoor competition after his eye surgery, while Martin Bäcklin will wait for the next Echochamber indoor event.

It is actually no surprise that Echochamber will soon be back at FAI/ISC events. The NSL Live Talk conversation with the team after the completion of the ten rounds at Crystal Coast included a commitment from the team members to continue for another decade. It was the same lineup in North Carolina that had already won the unofficial amateur world championship title in Australia 2018. They repeated the achievement six years later and are now preparing for another attempt to secure the valuable 5th place.

The Czech team Skywalkers Most will probably claim 4th place on their way toward future medal positions, while the Qatar delegation currently does not appear to have a competitive top team and has not participated in any FAI/ISC events since earning the bronze medal position at Crystal Coast. However, the battle for 5th place appears to feature the strongest competition on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, and the Scandinavian rivalry will be part of it.
