Did You Know...

... that SDC Rhebellion XP was the busiest competition team in the United States last year?

SDC Rhebellion XP at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021
posted May 13th, 2022 - The changes of the RhEvolution XP and SDC Rhythm XP lineups that the NSL News recently covered was showing the challenges of keeping a team together for a longer time period. However, there are also more than enough examples that teams can also get better once they find a well working lineup, and there are finally the teams who manage to continue with the same lineups year after year.

One of the teams who have made plans for the 2022 season with the same lineup is SDC Rhebellion XP, even though they were facing their own challenges of a special kind, as well. Their obstacles were positive ones and were actually speaking for the quality of the team. SDC Rhebellion XP launched their 4-way project at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021, and the new team caught the attention of the NSL News already by then. The NSL News coverage of the event included NSL Live Talk with three of the team members, Aga Horoszko, Kelsey Strock and Greg Bush.

4th team member Eric Bambach was not available for the January indoor camp at Paraclete XP, and Steve Lefkowitz was filling the open slot in training. Eric Bambach was back for the competition, where the new team missed their first medals in the AA/Intermediate Class only by eight points.

SDC Rhebellion XP was one of the busiest teams in the world last year and completed a total of six meets for a total of 53 competition rounds. No other U.S. team came even close to this number, and it was no big surprise that these competition experiences catapulted the team straight to the top level at the USPA Nationals 2021 at the end of the 2021 season. The changes of the RhEvolution XP and SDC Rhythm XP lineups that the NSL News recently covered was showing the challenges of keeping a team together for a longer time period. None of the team members missed a meet round throughout the whole year, and the same lineup peaked with the highest meet average of the year at the national outdoor championships. Only a 1-point jump-off battle with the Atlas Air Force team and three point deductions in this extra round kept SDC Rhebellion XP from winning their first USPA medals.

It was also no surprise after a very successful first year that the same lineup were ready to make plans for the 2022 season. However, it was finally a surprise that SDC Rhebellion XP missed the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022, a year after the event that was the beginning of the impressive 1-year team story.

There was a good reason though why SDC Rhebellion XP did not attend the indoor competition at Paraclete XP in February this year. The team did not know last winter if the same lineup would be able to come back for the 2022 season.

Team member Kelsey Strock had an invitation by XPG4 to train with the team and try out for the open slot, after Morgan Womble had decided not to continue with the U.S. 4-way Women team. XPG4 have had their eyes on the Rhebellion member, as XPG4 member Jeana Billings said: "Kelsey is top notch on so many levels."

Kelsey Strock surely appreciated the invitation and enjoyed the experience: "I had the privilege to try out with XPG4 this winter. The tryout experience was very positive - fun flying, supportive coaching, honest conversations. I have so much respect for the XPG4 project."

She spent a lot of time in the winter reflecting on her readiness to commit to what XPG4 needed to be successful, especially with the FAI Outdoor World Meet ahead of them in October 2022. Finally she decided not to join the team: "I needed to build more 4-way experience and strength before I would be ready to commit to what a U.S. 4-way team needs. XPG4 has a strong lineup of awesome women, and I'm excited to cheer them on at the world meet."

That was good news for her SDC Rhebellion XP team mates, of course, who did not hesitate to continue with making plans for this year, and they are highly motivated: "We really believe in each other and feel that we have a special team chemistry. We plan to compete again in the AA/Intermediate Class at the USPA Nationals 2022 Nationals, and Amanda Elkin will be back on camera at Skydive Chicao. We're now excited to build on our previous experiences together and see where a multi-year lineup can take us."

Kelsey Strock impressed the XPG4 members enough to get another special invitation. Jeana Billings respected her final decision and asked her to join her XPG8 lineup instead, for a trip to the 8-way competition of the Weembinamic 2022 in France this November. Anna Brunner, who won the AA/Intermediate Class competition with Kaos Theory XP last year became the new XPG4 member.
