Did You Know...

... that former RhEvolution members are chasing each other with U.S. top teams?

Paraclete XP Indoor Championships 2022
posted May 12th, 2022 - The NSL News introduced the new RhEvolution XP lineup a few days ago. Two new members make half of a 4-way team, and only original member and team founder Chris Normandeau is still in the new lineup, together with his 2020/2021 team mate Alex Bucevicius.

The same story pointed out that former RhEvolution members Gorka Amian, Greg Oldendick (Skydive Midwest NEXT) and Chris Webb (SDC Rhythm XP) are now competing against each other for USPA medals on the highest level in the United States.

Their new teams have been facing each other already twice this year, first at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship at the end of February, followed by the FAI Indoor World Cup last month.

Skydive Midwest NEXT finished ahead of SDC Rhythm XP at both indoor events, which was not a big surprise. The complete NEXT lineup is in its second year together, while the new Rhythm lineup was completed at the beginning of this year, as the NSL News reported on January 17th.

Skydive Midwest NEXT - SDC Rhythm XP at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022
FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
Last year, the current Skydive Midwest NEXT lineup were still facing SDC Rhythm XP with the same lineup that competed for the U.S. delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August 2021 (Christy Frikken, Doug Barron, Andrew Happick, Steve Lefkowitz, with Justin Wageman on camera).

The only returning Rhythm member, Doug Barron, had even more work to do for recruiting his new Rhythm lineup than Chris Normandeau had for RhEvolution XP. Chris Webb was selected as one of the new Rhythm members and is now starting from behind his former RhEvolution team mate, Gorka Amian.

Chris Webb and former Kaos Theory member Carl Kallgren have not even competed in 4-way Open yet at USPA Nationals, where Skydive Midwest NEXT placed 5th with the current lineup last year. In fact, Carl Kallgren will even skip the AAA/Advanced Class leaderboard this year, after posting USPA scores only in the AA/Intermediate Class competition with his previous team. Looking at the recent history of both teams explains why the head start of Skydive Midwest NEXT at the first two events this year was not a big surprise.

USPA Nationals 2021
Both teams were actually closer to each other than expected at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022, where the new Rhythm lineup impressed with the 23.6 average, and Skydive Midwest NEXT were only five points ahead of Rhythm (241 - 236) in February this year. Youngest Rhythm member Carl Kallgren had won the same event a year earlier with an 18.9 average in the AA/Intermediate Class, followed by 13.8 at the USPA Nationals.

Things were different a few months later when both teams met each other again at the FAI Outdoor World Meet. SDC Rhythm XP finished exactly on the same scoring level where Skydive Midwest NEXT were in February. The new difference of 22 points came with a significantly improved NEXT performance in Charleroi, as the NSL News reported on April 27th.

Both teams will be aiming at the runner-up position behind Arizona Airspeed at this year's USPA Nationals. The indoor season is over, and outdoor training has highest priority. Arizona Airspeed plan to offer an opportunity to measure the performance status on the run to the national outdoor championships. The Pre-Nationals of the Texas Skydiving League at the end of July will be extended to an international online event, and Airspeed will invite the international 4-way community to join. It would be an opportunity for Skydive Midwest NEXT and SDC Rhythm XP to check the progression, and for the new RhEvolution XP lineup, as well...
