... that Airbus Illertissen hope for participation at the new NSL Cloud Mondial in January?

Airbus 4-way lineup at the German Outdoor Nationals 2019
posted Jan 11th, 2021 - The German 4-way team Airbus Illertissen was in a very special situation last year, when the National Skydiving League offered the first NSL Cloud Mondial to compensate for the lack of outdoor competition in the time of the corona virus crisis.

The cancellation of all relevant and most of the smaller events, including the FAI Mondial 2020 in Tanay, Russia, gave the online connections of the international NSL Network a new meaning, and offered the same platform for outdoor and indoor competition.

Airbus used the opportunity of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 in a very special way. The former German national 4-way team was looking for competition opportunities for the new lineup, where new member Felix Pfeiffer could get familiar with the AAA Class dive pool in a competition environment.

The Paranodon Cup 2020 on the team's home turf in Illertissen was the first and only outdoor meet in Germany last year, and the event became the first AAA Class competition for Felix Pfeiffer in the new Airbus lineup.

Unfortunately, the German weather at the end of August allowed only the completion of two rounds. However, the event organizer had agreed to integrate the Paranodon Cup into the NSL Cloud Mondial, together with several other smaller events.

The teams used the same competition draw and could compare their scores with all the teams on the leaderboard of the NSL Cloud Mondial. Airbus were not done with the two rounds at the Paranodon Cup and decided to follow up with as many additional rounds of the international competition as possible. Result were scores for the two rounds on the Paranodon Cup leaderboard and a total of ten scores and videos for the NSL Cloud Mondial leaderboard.

Airbus ended up as the only team attending one of the smaller meets of the NSL Network and adding more scores and videos to the NSL Cloud Mondial leaderboard.

The NSL News mentioned in earlier updates from Germany that the Airbus 4-way lineup also includes one team member who has been training and competing with the Airbus 8-way team at the same time. Alexander Prendinger joined Germany's national 8-way team in 2018 and competed at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia.

Alexander Prendinger added 4-way training and competition to his schedule when Thomas Mack and Sarah Mertes asked him to join their 4-way lineup in 2019, as well. He was able to coordinate his double duties and has been training and competing with both teams in 2019 and 2020.

The Airbus 8-way team participated in the 8-way competition of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020, as well, and they performed their eleven rounds at a different time in Germany.

Alexander Prendinger's 4-way team mates will not compete for Germany at the next world meet. The Airbus 4-way lineup used to be the national team before Oceanside AtomiX took the top spot at the German Outdoor Nationals 2019, where Alexander Prendinger competed with Sarah Mertes, Thomas Mack and Solly Williams, Andreas Troegele on camera.

He is currently on a break and recovers from a back surgery after a painful time with training and competition in both events last year. The recovery is going well, as both Airbus teams have restarted with indoor training. Thomas Mack is even hoping that his team will be able to take on the new 11-round draw of the NSL Cloud Mondial this January. It would be the first indoor meet for the new lineup with Felix Pfeiffer.
