NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that two team slots are open before maximum capacity at New Hampshire?

AAA Class winner Cocked Nut in 2016
posted Jan 15th, 2019 - The first very busy meet week of the young 2019 competition season is history, with scores posted only by 4-way teams from the Czech Republic and Finland. There is a short break before the next leaderboard will feature only U.S. teams.

The last preview of this year's indoor competition at SkyVenture New Hampshire in January was showing the 36 teams that were registered in December. The NSL News had first announced the event on November 21st. The field of teams has grown to 40 in the meantime, and there are only two more team slots available until event organizer Ben Liston reaches full capacity of participation. It has happened only once in the history of the event that 42 teams competed at SkyVenture New Hampshire.

It was the 2016 event when Cocked Nut, one of the many different Mass Defiance lineups, won the AAA Class competition with a 23.3 average. Ben Liston is one of the original Mass Defiance members and is usually competing at his own event. Mass Defiance has been one of the best 4-way amateur teams in the world for many years.

The 2016 event was the first and the last time that a Defiance lineup won at SkyVenture New Hampshire, after several previous battles for the 1st place with Shmeland. Original members Ben Liston, John Silva and Brian Stephens had their original team videographer Steve Feldman in the lineup in 2017 and 2018.

AAA Class winner Ranch 2nd Generation in 2018
Ben Liston said chances are little that this year's Defiance lineup will be able to keep up with the new top favorite at New Hampshire, Ranch 2nd Generation, who won at their first showing in 2017 and ran away from the AAA Class field last year.

R2G will compete for the first time with new member Jeana Billings, while Ben Liston, John Silva and Brian Stephens have Doug Hendrix in the Defiance lineup this year. The 4th original member Jim Rees is never an option, as he is always the Chief Judge at the very busy event. Other former Defiance substitutes, like James Klinge or Nick Grillet, are not available.

Doug Hendrix was in the 10-way lineup of the Amphibious Attack Tigers who won the USPA 10-way gold medals last tear, together with Ben Liston and Brian Stephens. Brian Boyle was also in the 10-way gold medalist team, and he will compete against his 10-way team mates with another AAA Class team, LMNOP.

Ben Liston said that Doug Hendrix and Brian Boyle both are "up and coming skydivers" in the U.S. competition world. However, it seems to be unlikely that any of the AAA Class teams will be able to stop R2G from winning the third consecutive time at New Hampshire, even though the Spaceland Lite variation of SaLiteO has a strong lineup, as well.

USPA Collegiates 2018 Advanced Class champions: CT True Blue
The SNE Fly Girls continue in 2019, after their first appearance on last year's 4-way Open Class leaderboard at the USPA Nationals. They will also compete for the U.S. delegation in 4-way Women at the FAI World Cup 2019 in Eloy.

Burble's Edge is a new AA Class team for the indoor meet. USPA Intermediate Class bronze medalist Ed Ganley has three Open/Advanced Class competitors in the lineup for his last event in this category, including Amer Kassas who moved up into the AAA Class in 2018.

Two new teams have signed up for the A Class competition and one for the Rookie Class. CT True Blue is still the top contender in the NSL Power Rankings for the busiest category. They will arrive at SkyVenture New Hampshire as the new reigning USPA champions in the Advanced Class of the collegiate national championships.

It will be the first time in the United States for new Block 1 (Molar - Molar), which is in the event's dive pool for the AAA and AA Class teams. The AAA Class teams will also have to master the new Block 13 (Mixed Accordian - Mixed Accordian) at some point in time during the ten rounds...
