News Article Did you know that the Fun Flag was flying for the first time in Menzelinsk?
posted: Jul 31st, 2010 It is about time for the first Fun Flag update from Menzelinsk in Russia, one day before the teams will begin with Round 1 at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010. The Belgian team NMP-PCH Hayabusa had the last Fun Flag word at the World Meet 2008 in Maubeuge, France, and took it back home to Belgium. Hayabusa managed to keep possession of the flag after a very lively and exciting World Cup 2009 in Prostejov, Czech Republic. The NSL News audience may remember one of the biggest and toughest battles for the Fun Flag after French videographer Sylvain Girault had dropped it from... (more)
News Article Did you know that Craig Girard's birthday jump was a 28-way?
posted: Jul 30th, 2010 There is still no end of Russia's heatwave in sight. Moscow is even burning at several places, as the high temperatures have initiated fires. The only cool place in Menzelinsk is the freefall, and the NSL News is only reporting the jumps and looking at the videos... Yesterday's last paragraph mentioned that an international group of 28 competitors was getting ready for Craig Girard's birthday jump. The teams that were finished with training had the opportunity to celebrate with and for the 45-year old Formation Skydiving legend. Arizona Airspeed's Eliana Rodriguez invited the participants... News Article Did you know that NSL-TV features Airspeed training on Craig Girard's birthday?
posted: Jul 29th, 2010 It was a very hot day in Menzelinsk, Russia, even though the competition at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 has not even begun yet. It was the weather that brought temperatures of up to 40'C (104 F) to the teams, competitors, officials and staff during the day. The conditions were once again perfect for training, not very energizing for office and other ground work. This area in Russia is not used to such hot weather conditions, and there is not much air conditioning. Tents, trees and buildings help to hide from the sun, cool beverages are crucial - a lot of water throughout... (more)
News Article Did you know that the 8-way teams prepare in different ways for the battle?
posted: Jul 29th, 2010 Last weekend's leaderboard was replaced with a new one sooner than usual. The reason is obvious, as the currently listed teams are the ones that will compete at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia. It's an effort to introduce the field to the audience early enough. The previous leaderboard has neither been removed nor have the teams been forgotten. In fact, new scores from the Virginia Parachute Council have just been added. There is also one team that is on both leaderboards. Denmark's national team Bodyflight Voluntas attended the national championships... (more)
News Article Did you know that UK 4-way team Satori can't wait to get to Russia?
posted: Jul 28th, 2010 The NSL News mentioned earlier today that a Satori update would follow very soon. The UK national team in the Open Class arrived a day after Team Bodyflight made it to Russia coming from the United Kingdom. The UK delegation is now complete. Team Bodyflight's reigning and defending 4-way world champion in the female 4-way category, Sarah Smith-Cannon, brought the IPC Trophy for this category in her luggage and allowed the NSL News to take a look at it upon arrival at the airport. She also brought up the question where the Fun Flag is recently hidden, and it is about time to investigate this... (more)
News Article Did you know that the NSL News updates are now coming directly from Menzelinsk?
posted: Jul 28th, 2010 There are a few corrections concerning the previously introduced teams at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010. NMP-PCH Hayabusa has a new alternate. Luc Verstrepen has stepped back, and Dennis Praet is the new official alternate for Hayabusa. He is one of the two young Belgians who competed with Team X under Luc Verstrepen's and Joey Jones' guidance at the World Challenge 2010. Also, the NSL News can follow up with the South African lineup. It is almost identical with the one of the World Meet 2008 in Maubeuge, France. The team name has changed to Voodoo, and the same lineup... (more)
