Did You Know...

... that NSL-TV features Rounds 1 and 2 of the Top 6 in Menzelinsk?

Award ceremony in Menzelinsk 2010
posted Aug 21st, 2010 - Many new scores have been posted since the conclusion of the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia. However, the aftermath of the most relevant international competition in the sport is far from being complete, and many more videos are to come.

The NSL News will go through the complete field of teams in all categories, step by step, as there are so many stories and profiles to cover. The review begins with the first two rounds of the Top 6 teams on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard. The audience has the opportunity to follow the progress of the competition round by round and somehow be more a part of the drama that unfolded in Menzelinsk.

The rules of the International Parachuting Commission (IPC) allow only the best six teams of each event to complete all ten rounds. The first eight rounds are the "selection rounds", the "final rounds" consist of one "semi-final round" (9) and one "final round" (10).

Award ceremony in Maubeuge 2008
The results after the first two rounds showed a leaderboard that did not surprise anybody yet. Arizona Airspeed, the defending world champions, had a perfect start with a sole highscore in Round 1. Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge countered with exactly the same effort in Round 2.

NMP-PCH Hayabusa, the 2008 bronze medalist, was only one single point behind after the two slow 3-block sequences. It seemed as if the three medalists of 2008 were on track to copy the 3-team battle of the previous world meet.

The Sky Panthers missed the energetic start that Airspeed, France and Hayabusa had in Round 1. However, the Russian national team showed in Round 2 that it was ready to make Hayabusa's life once again as difficult as possible.

Arizona Airspeed at the World Challenge 2010
Evolution and Sinapsi knew that they were in underdog situations, and they could not keep up with the four top teams in the first two rounds. This would not change much throughout the remainder of the competition, as the four top teams performed very well and did not leave much room for the underdogs.

However, there was still a realistic chance that things could change dramatically, anywhere on the leaderboard. The first two rounds would not have too much impact on the standings, as they were two of the three slow 3-block sequences.

Round 3 was now coming up, at the end of the first competition day, and anything was possible. Round 2 at the World Challenge 2010 had shown what a superfast sequence can do to a leaderboard. It was the round that caused Arizona Airspeed to lose a meet for the first time in the team's history. Rounds 4 and 5 will be uploaded soon.
