posted Oct 30th, 2026 - The 4-way Women competition at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026 was very similar to the 8-way event, where the teams did not challenge each other very closely. In fact, the gap between the winner, Nephtys Maubeuge from France, and the runner-up, Ranch TNT SDAZ (206 - 163), was even significantly larger than in 8-way, where the Qatar Falcons were only ten points behind Paraclete XP8 after Round 10 (196 - 186).

The spread in the total scores reflected this situation even more clearly. In 8-way Open, the difference between the winner and the last-placed team among the five teams was 107 points (196 - 89). Among the four teams in 4-way Women, the gap was almost identical at 105 points (206 - 101). The NSL News had previously mentioned that 4-way Women winners Nephtys Maubeuge compensated for the lack of close competition in their event by comparing their scores with those of the teams on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard. There, they found their indirect opponents among the contenders for the unofficial amateur championship title.

The other three teams in 4-way Women could do the same, although at the lower end of the combined leaderboard. That's where Ranch TNT SDAZ and Thyra finished right next to each other, just as they had on the 4-way Women leaderboard, earning the FAI silver (Ranch TNT) and bronze (Thyra) medals.

Ranch TNT SDAZ (US) - Thyra (NO) at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026

---

Ranch TNT's and Thyra's adjacent placings on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard were only possible, however, because Italy's 4-way Open Class team, Amnesya Fly X, did not score any points in the final two rounds following Chiara Brunetti's injury, which the NSL News reported on October 20th.

Amnesya tried to manage substitute Mario Fatturoso's double duties in 4-way Open and Canopy Piloting through the first eight rounds, accommodating the challenging combination of the two disciplines as well as possible. Eventually, they decided to stop competing after Round 8 and accept zero scores for the final two rounds.

With substitute Mario Fatturoso replacing Chiara Brunetti, the Italian 4-way Open Class team was three points ahead of Ranch TNT SDAZ and well clear of Thyra after Round 8. Had they continued at that pace, they would have separated the two 4-way Women teams on the combined leaderboard. However, the two zeros in the final rounds pushed Amnesya far down the standings. They still finished ahead of three other 4-way Open Class teams and Funky Falcon from the Netherlands, the fourth-place team in 4-way Women.

Funky Falcon (NL) at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026

---

The Dutch 4-way Women team played an important role in their category, even though they finished at the bottom of the leaderboard. They committed to the trip to Skydive Arizona knowing that they would not be in contention for medals. Instead, they embraced the Olympic spirit of enjoying the world championship experience and doing the best they could.

Their commitment actually helped save the 4-way Women event from cancellation. Under the current FAI/ISC rules, a First Category Event (World Championships, World Cup, or World Air Games) requires a minimum of four participating teams. Otherwise, the event must be canceled. Funky Falcon brought the number of competitors in 4-way Women up to four, meeting that minimum requirement.

Funky Falcon also competed at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025, where they finished in the same position on the 4-way Women leaderboard. They also attended the BENELUX Championship in September last year with the same lineup. In fact, it is still the original lineup that launched Funky Falcon at the ISR Grand Prix 2023. Three of the four 4-way Women teams in Eloy also had 4-way Open Class teams in their respective delegations. The Dutch delegation had Out Of The Blue on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, while Norway's Agera did not make the trip to Eloy. Thyra members and their coach, Carl-Erik Tuv, are now considering a mixed-gender lineup for a new 4-way Open Class team from Norway.
