Did You Know...

... that the Netunos compete on outdoor home turf next year?

Netunos at Skydive Arizona in 2026
posted Oct 31st, 2026 - The Netunos 8-way team from Brazil and Canada's 8-way team added another duel to their ongoing internal competition for positions just behind the medal contenders at international FAI/ISC and other events. The NSL News reported on their previous battle at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025 in an update on 21 May 2025.

The Brazilian 8-way team had won their most recent duel at that time, at Paraclete XP in April 2025, just a few months after their previous encounter at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2025. Team Canada performed at a higher level at the indoor world championship than in February (13.5 - 14.3), and its new team record average would have brought Canada closer to Brazil. However, the Netunos had also raised their performance level and finished with a 17.8 average in April 2025.

Both teams returned this year for the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2026. Canada once again competed at a higher scoring level (15.7), while the Netunos also reached a significantly higher level, averaging 19.6 against their direct international rivals. The lineups of both Team Canada and Netunos consist mostly of 4-way and 8-way competitors who train and compete both indoors and outdoors. However, the two teams had never faced each other at an outdoor event before their next direct confrontation at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026.

The earlier update traced the last outdoor competition between Brazil and Canada back to the FAI World Championship 2016, where Canada's 8-way team Divergence outscored Brazil by six points (99 - 93). Richard Bisson was the only Divergence member competing in 2016 who was still training and competing with Canada's current 8-way lineup ten years later in Eloy. None of the Netunos members had competed at Skydive Chicago in 2016.

Divergence won the 8-way duel between Canada and Brazil with a 9.9 average in 2016, while the Netunos arrived at Skydive Arizona with a 9.7 average from this year's national outdoor championship in July. Richard Bisson must have seen an opportunity to win the outdoor duel against their regular indoor opponents.

However, the Netunos finished in Eloy with a new team record average for a 10-round competition (10.7), while Team Canada remained a full point below Divergence's 2016 average. Even so, Canada's 8.9 average was significantly higher than last year's 7.0 average at the national outdoor championship.

The next international outdoor competition could bring both teams together again, this time on the Netunos' home turf. Brazil is hosting the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2027, and there is no doubt that Brazil's 4-way and 8-way legend Pedro(san) Ushizima Junior will be looking to push the 8-way scoring level even higher than where the Netunos finished in Eloy. Even Canada's 9.9 average from 2016 would probably not be enough to threaten the Netunos on their home turf.
