Did You Know...

... that Airbus and Satori XL members of 2016 oppose each other once again?

Airbus 4-way at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2016
posted Aug 17th, 2026 - The NSL News excursion back into the past on August 15th focused mostly on Pete Allum and his unique career in formation skydiving competition and other events. It also included a look at his current time with British 4-way team SOAR, where he has reunited with his former Satori XL teammate Julia Swallow.

The same story included a brief review of the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2016, where Julia Swallow and Pete Allum competed together for Satori XL after qualifying as the British national 4-way Open Class team in 2015 and completing a year of training and competition.

Satori XL finished 7th at Skydive Chicago, four points behind the Canadian 4-way family team Evolution, which still had all three Lemay brothers—Benoit, Martin, and Vincent—in the lineup. Satori’s strongest challenger for 7th place was Airbus from Germany, who once again finished just below the 20-point average threshold, eleven points behind Satori XL.

The 2016 Airbus lineup included Thomas Mack, who was already flying the outside center slot that he continues to perform with the current Airbus lineup. His 2016 teammates were Olaf Biedermann, Göran Meyer, and Christian Schäfer, with Andreas Trögele on camera.

Operation Adler 8-way at Crystal Coast 2024
The German Airbus lineup of 2016 was once again chasing the 20-point average and finished just one point short, with 199 points after ten rounds. The same lineup had already recorded a 20.1 average in the Airbus team records at the German Outdoor Nationals 2013, where they nevertheless lost by a single point to Paratec Saar. They went on to win the qualification for the 2016 outdoor world championship two years later and represented Germany at Skydive Chicago.

Two of Thomas Mack’s teammates from the 2013–2016 Airbus lineup, Olaf Biedermann and Göran Meyer, have since been training and competing with the 8-way team Operation Adler, which will represent Germany at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026. They won FAI outdoor world championship bronze medals with the Airbus 8-way team at Eloy 2022 and then repeated that achievement with Operation Adler at Crystal Coast 2024. The Operation Adler lineup in 2024 included Thomas Mack and the complete Airbus 4-way lineup from 2013–2016.

The German 8-way team has once again qualified to represent their country at Eloy 2026, and they appear to have realistic chances of turning their bronze medals into silver this time, even though Thomas Mack and Christian Schäfer are no longer part of Operation Adler.

Airbus 4-way at the German Outdoor Nationals 2025
Thomas Mack will still meet his former 4-way and 8-way teammates in Eloy this year. He is now pursuing the 20-point average benchmark with the current Airbus Illertissen 4-way lineup, which includes his two sons, Tim (point) and Moritz (video). Claire Rebhahn (tail) and Felix Pfeiffer (inside center) complete the lineup.

The stakes are high once again for the German 4-way team. Contending for the unofficial amateur world championship title and reaching the 20-point average is a highly valuable goal, and it appears to be within reach for Airbus 4-way Illertissen. Thomas Mack already achieved the 20-point average with his former Airbus lineup years ago. Now he wants to bring his sons to the same level, with the help of coaches Silvanus (Solly) Williams and Gary Smith.

The 20-point average appears to be within reach for the new lineup, which brings together two generations of the Mack family. However, there will be very strong competition for 4th and 5th place in October, and the strongest challenge for the Germans will probably come from Great Britain. Thomas Mack will once again face the Satori XL members of 2016, Julia Foxwell and Pete Allum, who are now competing together with well-trained former Chimera members Sarah Ashworth and James Woods, with Pete Harries on camera. Sweden’s Echochamber are also planning to successfully defend their unofficial amateur championship title.
