posted May 2nd, 2026 - The outdoor competition season of the NSL 4-way Network traditionally begins with the Shamrock Showdown—this year held as the 1st Bob Hallett Memorial. Only the two currently strongest teams in the world, Aethers (FR) and Golden Knights (US), attended the memorial event at Skydive DeLand, despite the challenging schedule so soon after the completion of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026.

As in previous years, the Texas Skydiving League, led by TSL Director Scott Latinis, followed with its outdoor season opener last weekend at the Spaceland San Marcos Showdown. This year, however, the Texas teams shared the weekend leaderboard with additional competition, as Christy Frikken and Mary SantAngelo launched the outdoor season of the Southern California Skydiving League significantly earlier than usual at Skydive Elsinore.

Skydive Perris, host of the second SCSL meet in August, will also welcome teams and competitors to the USPA Nationals 2026 in September. This gives SCSL teams an early start in preparing for potential participation in the national outdoor championship, which will take place again on the U.S. West Coast this year. They will also have the opportunity to assess their progress one month prior to the event, when Christy Frikken and Mary SantAngelo host the second SCSL meet at Skydive Perris in August.

Unfortunately, the weather in Southern California did not cooperate last weekend, and only a few of the nine teams at Skydive Elsinore were able to complete more than the first competition round. In contrast, the three teams at Spaceland San Marcos in Texas benefited from better conditions and completed five of the six scheduled rounds.

TSL Director Scott Latinis introduced a new team on the AAA Class leaderboard, Steps to Destruction, which tied the first round with a new SCSL team, Perris Probably Fine. The latter went on to win Round 2 before being halted by the weather. Spaceland Toxic founder Demo McDonnell also presented a new AA/Intermediate Class team, Toxic Horizon, which tied the first two rounds with SCSL team Sunkissed Spinners.

Skydive Spaceland’s Pajama Party, visiting with their coach Kyle Hermberg from Dallas, won the AA/Intermediate Class competition convincingly. Their performance deserves particular attention, especially considering the scoring level at the very start of the 2026 season.

SSD Pajama Party at the USPA Nationals 2025 - Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2026

SSD Pajama Party launched their second year of 4-way competition together last weekend. The team first caught the attention of NSL News during their debut at the Indoor Cloud League in June 2025, where the same lineup completed two Rookie Class sequences for the iFLY Dallas team before posting their first outdoor scores later that month.

Pajama Party went on to attend two additional meets in the Texas Skydiving League 2025 season before traveling to Skydive Arizona for their first USPA Nationals in Eloy 2025. While Spaceland Toxic claimed the USPA Intermediate Class gold medals, Pajama Party finished in 6th place at their first national championship.

The team reunited for their second season and opened it with their first medals at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2026. Their coach, Kyle Hermberg, also competed at the same event alongside Pajama Party’s team videographer, Nick Anderson, in the AAA/Advanced Class with Aeroworx. Pajama Party have now kicked off their outdoor season with an 11.4 average—very close to last year’s winning level at the USPA Nationals. They now face an early opportunity to adapt to the pressure of being a top contender.
