Support the NSL News in 2025 - Preview of FAI World Cup 2025

Did You Know...

... that the Netunos have registered for 8-way at the FAI Outdoor World Cup?

From World Meet 2024 to World Cup 2025: Netunos (BR)
posted Aug 5th, 2025 - Round 1 of the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 at Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands is only little over three weeks away (August 29th), and a new update has brought a few changes, which do not cause a heavy impact on the NSL Power Rankings..

However, the withdrawal of the two 4-way teams from Qatar, Lions and Cheetahs, reduce the number of 4-way Open Class teams to sixteen. Austria did not register the team that was on the first list, and Bripac from Spain are not joining Papea on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard.

The latest addition to the list came from Brazil. The Netunos were most recently a few times in the NSL News topics, and they finally signed up for the 8-way competition in Teuge. The number of 8-way teams is still the same though, as the U.S. indoor and outdoor world champions of XP8 have canceled their participation.

Neither the Netunos nor any other registered 8-way teams are realistically in a position to threaten the Qatar Falcons in their expected top spot. The Netunos may still have their eyes on the bronze medal position though, after the recent 11.1 average performance at their national outdoor championship. They would still have to outscore Bra Nok (US) and Mandatory Fun! (US) before they could think of FAI bronze medals, which seem to be in contention between Prison 9 (US) and Airbus (DE).

Funky Falcon at the ESL Championship 2019
Nothing has actually changed in the NSL Power Rankings of the 4-way Women event. However, the latest update reveals that the home team from the Netherlands actually has a recent competition history. It's the Funky Falcon who will try to defend the Dutch home turf in Teuge. Three team members (Lianne Dijkhuizen, Pauline Koning, Sherida Verhoogh) have been training and competing together since 2018, and Mieke Mulder joined them in 2023. René Hoogland is filming the Funky Falcon.

The Dutch 8-way team has added a team name, which reflects 4-way team Shinobi. Fonsz Kriegsman was on camera for Shinobi, and he continues with his team mates Cintha Roersma and Freek Boland in 8-way.

The Netherlands have a complete Formation Skydiving delegation in Teuge, with Out Of The Blue in 4-way Open, Funky Falcon in 4-way Women, Disgruntled Seagulls in 4-way VFS, ShinobiXL in 8-way. OOTB are expected to challenge Echochamber and Agera for the European FAI bronze medals, and Funky Falcon will try to stay close to Thyra from Norway. Both European teams may even have a chance to win world cup medals if they can hold off the two U.S. teams. ShinobiXL could also be in European 8-way medal range behind the German Airbus. Only the two British 8-way teams could get in the way of the third European medal position for the Dutch delegation.
