Did You Know...

... that Germany's national indoor championship featured very interesting guest teams?

German 4-way AAA medal winners at the award ceremony
posted Mar 14th, 2023 - Other 4-way events have been taking place while the NSL News focused primarily on the Shamrock Showdown 2023. There was a good reason to give attention to the outdoor event at Skydive DeLand in the middle of the indoor season, as it was a copy of the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022, at least on the very top of the leaderboard.

The Shamrock Showdown lived up to all expectations, while the final rankings were surely not a copy of the results in Eloy last year. The NSL News aftermath of the Shamrock Showdown will continue, while it is time to catch up with the other events.

One of the most interesting recent indoor events was the German national indoor championship, where the defending champions of the Jochen Schweizer Arena Airfource were holding off the German national outdoor team, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen.

This was not a surprise, as the Airbus members explained in NSL Live Talk on January 11th at end of their outdoor training camp in DeLand. The Airbus 4-way team knew that they would not be able to offer much indoor opposition to the national indoor team in the middle of the Airfource preparations for the indoor world championship next month.

Weembi - Airfource at the German Indoor Nationals 2023
Claire Rebhahn with AtomiX in 2021
The most interesting parts of the indoor championship in Germany were created by two very strong guest teams.

The international Weembi lineup even outscored the German Airfource and finished in 1st place on the open leaderboard.

The German national indoor team does not have to worry about the strongest opponent on their home turf.

Weembi International will not be eligible for the indoor world championship with team members from three different countries.

There was actually only one German 4-way competitor in the Weembi lineup. Claire Rebhahn was in the last AtomiX lineup, who lost the battle for the German outdoor championship in 2021 in the dramatic Round 10 Super Sequence. The NSL News reported the outcome of the event on 10 September 2021.

AtomiX announced plans to continue a month after the event. The plans were canceled a week later, and Claire Rebhahn did not have a team any longer.

The former AtomiX member and only German 4-way competitor in the Weembi lineup was obviously still very well prepared for the indoor competition, as the 1st place with a 26.7 average is showing. The three German Bundeswehr soldiers and former Airbus member Christian Schaefer eventually lost by one point against the Weembi team with Claire Rebhahn, her two female team mates and player-coach Roy Janssen.

The German national indoor team had the upper hand throughout the first half of the meet (143 - 134) before Roy Janssen and his three female team mates picked up the pace and did not give away any of the last six rounds.

The Weembi lineup included two world-class opponents in 4-way Women. Christine Malnis has been a team member of the strongest 4-way Women team in history and also competed for France together with Roy Janssen and her 4-way Women team mate Sophia Pecout at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019 for France with the Weembi High Rollers. Julien Degen completed the High Rollers lineup.

Sian Stokes is a current member of NFTO and will try to win 4-way Women gold medals at the upcoming indoor world championship in Slovakia, after outdoor gold in Eloy. Her NFTO team mates Vana Parker and Elizabeth Kennedy competed with Kuddelmuddel at the same event and finished ahead of Airbus in 3rd place. Sian Stokes, Vana Parker and Elizabeth Kennedy will compete together in 4-way Women next month, while Christine Malnis has her own plans for the same event. The NSL News will follow up very soon...
