NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that the new Czech 4-way junior lineups completed 20 meet rounds within three days?

Dream Team with Filip Lukavec and Martin Stransky
posted Nov 14th, 2022 - The transition from outdoor training and competition to the indoor environment is a lot easier than the other way around. The entry into a flying chamber of a windtunnel does not simulate an exit from a jump plane realistically, and the first page of a sequence does not take place in sub-terminal air and with the vision of a horizon that looks differently.

This is the time of the year with the easier transition from outdoors to indoors, and the Czech national team in 4-way Open was the first one in competition, as the NSL News reported on November 11th. HF Flying Circus represented the Czech Republic at the FAI Outdoor World Meet at the end of October and posted the next scores shortly later at the November meet of the Czech Tunnel League.

Only the Czech M Team did the same, after their attendance at the Czech Open Outdoor Championship in August. All other Czech teams on the first leaderboard of the indoor winter season train and compete exclusively in the flying chambers of the Hurricane Factory in Prague and Flyspot Katowice in Poland.

There are a few exceptions, as individual members of the indoor teams are also jumping from planes. Two of them are Filip Lukavec and Martin Stransky, who both competed with the Dream Team at the national outdoor championships. HF Cubs member Sabina Ciolekova has done the same in the past and even earlier.

HF Chameleons - HF Flying Rebels at the November meet of the World Tunnel League
Dream Team with Sabina Ciolekova
Filip Lukavec and Martin Stransky were team mates with the Dream Team at the national outdoor championships, while they have been opponents with their 4-way Junior teams.

Martin Stransky has been training and competing with the HF Flying Rebels and won the gold medals in 4-way Junior at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. Filip Lukavec won the FAI bronze medals at the same event with the HF Chameleons.

The first NSL News update of the indoor winter season in the Czech Republic on November 11th covered the internal Czech duel of the two junior teams, which will eventually qualify one of them for the next indoor world meet next year in Slovakia.

The HF Cubs are still the reigning 4-way Junior world champions of Weembi Lille 2019, and either HF Flying Rebels or HF Chameleons will try to defend the title for the Czech Republic in April 2023.

It is an open race at this point in time, even though the Flying Rebels were far ahead of the Chameleons (225 - 199) at Airspace Charleroi after the eight AA Class rounds in April this year. Both teams had changes in their lineups, and they start on almost exactly the same performance level.

HF Flying Rebels - HF Chameleons at the Flyspot Open 2022
4-way Junior awards at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
In fact, the race for the slot as the Czech national team in 4-way Junior is even (1 : 1) after the first two indoor meets this year. Flying Rebels and Chameleons completed the first ten rounds last Wednesday at the Hurricane Factory in Prague before packing up right away for a trip to Katowice in Poland for the Flyspot Open 2022.

They had one day of time (Thursday) to leave the first meet behind and travel to the new event location. Round 1 at Flyspot Katowice was scheduled for Friday morning, and the next 10-round meet would be completed on Saturday.

Only HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons made the trip from Prague to Katowice for the second 10-round meet within three days. Even the busiest 4-way competition team in history, HF Flying Circus, did not sign up for both events, and Jan Klapka got on the road only with the two junior teams on Thursday. At least one member of the HF Flying Circus was in Katowice though, as Martina Vavackova has been coaching the junior and senior teams from the eastern part of the Czech Republic there.

The two leaderboards and the videos of the 20 meet rounds feature the two Czech 4-way Junior teams and their first confrontation of the new indoor winter season. Jan Klapka has monthly meets scheduled as usual, and the indoor world meet in April next year will be the highlight for either HF Flying Rebels or HF Chameleons.
