Did You Know...

... that the competition draw in Tanay may favor HayaBusa and offer a world record opportunity?

Fast early sequences: NMP PCH HayaBusa in Tanay
posted Aug 9th, 2021 - The competition draw for the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 has been posted for a few hours, and the teams have finished their preparations for Round 1 tomorrow morning.

The Polish national team in 4-way Open also withdrew from the competition, and the field is down to a total of ten teams. Flyspot Sky4four had recently competed at the Flyspot Liga Meet on July 25th and decided not to follow up with the outdoor competition in Russia.

The reigning 4-way Open Class world champions, NMP PCH HayaBusa, cannot complain about the competition draw. They like the fast sequences, and the 10-round meet begins with two of them. Round 1 (O,19,Q,5) and Round 2 (17,B,E,P) both could create a head-start for the Belgians, and the next ones are coming soon in Round 4 (M,N,7,F) and in Round 5 (K,L,C,4).

If the new lineup with inside center Michele Silvi continue with taking serious advantage of the fast sequences, then any potential competition for the gold medals could be over at half-time. Rounds 6 to 10 would allow any team with a comfortable lead just coasting to the finish-line.

33-pointer world record: Golden Knights in Australia 2018
It is surely not the same situation in 8-way, where the same numbers and letters have a different meaning. The end of the first half of the meet concludes with the fastest sequence of the competition (K,L,C,4) after an average draw for the first four rounds.

Round 5 may even offer the next opportunity to challenge the 33-point world record that the Golden Knights posted twice, first at the FAI World Meet 1997, then again in Australia 2018. The French national team came very close in Round 1 of the Shamrock Showdown 2021 with a different fast 8-way sequence.

There are once again the same four world-class 8-way teams taking on the next opportunity of a new highscore for a single round in 8-way history. The Tanay 8-way team and the Qatar Falcons were not ready to challenge the Golden Knights and the 33-pointer world record in 2018. It could be different now, almost three years later.

However, it is unlikely that the 8-way field will be separated enough after Round 5 in Tanay for an early break-away. The remaining rounds offer enough potential for gains and losses, even if any of the teams break the standing world record.

Round 10 of the Golden Knights in Australia 2018
No Mercy at the FAI World Cup 2017
The NSL News preview of the 4-way Women competition was mainly covering the situation of the reigning French world champions in this event, and the potential of the Russian national team Bubbles as a potential challenger.

The double-duties for three of the 4-way Women team members (Christine Malnis, Sophia Pecout, Gaelle Giesen) and videographer Michel Laynaud in 4-way and 8-way both have to be mastered successfully to win FAI gold medals. Pamela Lissajoux competes only in 4-way Women. At least the 8-way competition is very strong and could easily become nerve-wrecking. Additional pressure by Bubbles in 4-way Women would add to the challenges for the French female 3-way and the whole French delegation.

There could also be a second duel in 4-way Women, this one for the bronze medals. The French team may have more work to do than it looked like after the withdrawal of the British team NFTO. The situation between Aviatrixx and No Mercy from Poland could also be more competitive than expected, even though the Polish team has not been very active recently.

No Mercy have their last outdoor average (14.6) on NSL leaderboards from the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017 in August 2017. There is no indication where the team is standing at the moment. However, the two teams don't seem to be too far away from each other for an exciting bronze medal battle.
