Did You Know...

... that CTR Optimum had two AAA lineups at the July competition?

Last meet together for Juliana Sé and André Ferraz in September 2020
posted Jul 29th, 2021 - The Brazil Tunnel League completed its July meet successfully last weekend. It turned out to become the highest participation in the history of the indoor league with the 16 teams performing once again their eight meet rounds.

The indoor meets, managed by by iFLY Sao Paulo's David Rodrigues, allow the participants to compete with more than only one team. This player-coaching format has been very popular in almost all countries in the world, while it usually does not apply at national championships.

Norway was recently one of the few exceptions, where the skydiving federation has been sanctioning the members of the national team to train and compete with other teams of the FS 2022 4-way project.

Most of the Brazilian top competitors could be found in other teams in May and last weekend. Pedro Ushizima, one of the most experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors in Brazil, had the busiest agenda with three teams, two of them in AAA (Optimum Prime, Plano B) and Mineours on the A Class leaderboard.

Optimum Prime and CTR Optimum at the July meet of the Brazil Tunnel League
CTR Optimum at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia
The NSL News update from Brazil on June 2nd, after the completion of May's indoor competition, covered CTR Optimum's first indoor competition with the new lineup. The same story pointed out that Pedro Ushizima was considering to compete for Brazil at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 with a new team, Prime 4-way, who could have stepped in after CTR Optimum's withdrawal as the national team for the world meet.

No team from Brazil was registered for the world meet, and Prime 4-way members Pedro Ushizima and Deborah Schroder now came back with two new members and a new team name. It was a surprising lineup, as it included two CTR Optimum members, team and league founder André Ferraz and his wife, Juliana Sé.

CTR Optimum's former inside center Juliana Sé was still in the indoor lineup at times when new member Jorge Neto was not available for training due to his travel distance. She competed with CTR Optimum last time in September 2020.

Now she was back for indoor action, together with her husband André Ferraz, who also joined the second Optimum lineup at last weekend's competition, Optimum Prime.

André Ferraz and Pedro Ushizima with CTR Optimum in 2005
In fact, André Ferraz was competing against himself for the top spot, and the new Optimum Prime lineup won after an exciting 4-point battle. All eight team members are actually CTR Optimum members. Pedro Ushizima and André Ferraz go all the way back to the very first Optimum lineup of 2005.

The growing Optimum family has finally decided to split, and two different teams will go their own ways. André Ferraz continues with his wife Juliana Sé and his original team mate Pedro Ushizima, Deborah Schroder completes the CTR Optimum Prime lineup.

George Narita, Jorge Neto and Alisson Vargas will recruit a new member for their own lineup with a new team name. Both teams are so close to each other that more exciting 4-way battles can be expected.

It may become even more interesting at the national outdoor championship in September. The CTR Optimum lineup until last week are the defending outdoor champions, after a tight 9-round battle with the military Cometas team, which was only decided due to a terrible Round 6 for the runner-up. Cometas have been in outdoor training only, and they are well prepared to outscore both Optimum lineups this year...
