posted Jul 6th, 2021 - The leader of this year's current A Class Rankings, Paranodon Futura 3, posted their 11.4 average at the Paranodon Cup in June, as the NSL News reported on June 22nd. The meet report from Germany pointed out that Paranodon Futura 3 outscored all AA Class teams in Round 1.

Both categories had the same sequence for Round 1 (A,P,7) as the NSL competition draw allows this to happen in the drawing procedure, and the German A Class team posted the highscore of the nine teams that performed the same Round 1.

Paranodon Futura 3 actually started the team project under the team name "Radiots" at the Fly Challenge indoor competition in Munich at the end of February 2020. It was the current lineup who posted the first team scores and placed 2nd behind another Paranodon Futura team.

The Fly Challenge was the last 4-way event in Germany before the shutdown of all training and competition activities due to the corona virus crisis in Germany. The Radiots had started with indoor training in January, and national coach Robert Trögele eventually decided to adopt the team and include it in his Paranodon Futura 4-way project after the Fly Challenge. The Radiots became the Futura 3 team. Paranodon Futura 3 began with outdoor training at Robert Trögele's skydiving center in Illertissen, Skydive Paranodon, and the new team competed at their first outdoor meet, the Paranodon Cup 2020.

Paranodon Futura 3 at the Paranodon Cup

The Paranodon Cup 2020 was an attempt to restart outdoor training and competition in Germany, even though the national outdoor championships were already canceled. The weather allowed only the completion of two rounds, and Futura 3 did not have the complete lineup available anyway.

Martin Zuber, another former participant in the Paranodon Futura project, replaced Michael Eberhardt for the 2-round competition, and Futura 3 continued with the original Radiots lineup after the event.

Marisa Dolderer is the team captain as the most experienced team member with a total of 1,200 jumps. All other Futura 3 members are still quite far away from the 1,000-jump number.

Paranodon Futura 3 are training for the national outdoor championships in September and aim at winning the A Class competition (4-way Beginners), which is included in the event, next to the AAA and the AA categories.

They also had the national indoor championship in their competition schedule for 2021, which was canceled for the same reason as last year's outdoor championships. They were happy to get at least this year's Paranodon Cup as a test event for the national championships.

The 11.4 average is promising for Paranodon Futura 3, while there is still a lot of work ahead of the team. The A Class is very competitive in Germany, and an 11.4 average would not even be enough for a medal position at the last national championships in 2019.

Saulgau Flips won the German A Class bronze medals with a 13.9 average, and Futura 3's 11.4 average at this year's Paranodon Cup would have been just enough for the 6th place. Paranodon Futura's signature lineup won the AA Class silver medals with 11.9 two years ago and now compete in the AAA Class. Futura 2 will represent the 4-way project in the AA Class this year, and Futura 3 have the A Class title on their list of goals.

Futura 3 plan to complete 80 team training jumps, which is significantly lower due to the corona virus restrictions in Germany. The same counts for the indoor training, where the original plan was reduced to five training hours.

However, the team still has plenty of support in Illertissen by the national coach, and they they get additional tips and help from other experienced teams at their home dropzone. The Paranodon AAA Class team and the Airbus 4-way team both train in Illertissen and share their knowledge and experiences with the A Class team.
