Did You Know...

... that two A Class teams from Arizona joined the June leaderboard?

Eggplant lineup at the ASL June meet
posted Jun 28th, 2021 - Two teams of the Arizona Skydiving League added more A Class scores to the June leaderboard. The A Class has been Eggplant's home category, as the NSL News reported on April 3rd. Eggplant competed in the A Class in 2019 and 2020, and they will now have the opportunity to post scores on the A/Beginner Class of the USPA Nationals on their home turf in Eloy.

The 9.0 average last weekend at the June meet of the Arizona Skydiving League is also a promising result and brings Eggplant probably into medal contention for the first set of USPA medals in this new USPA category. The 9.0 after the five rounds is the a new team record average for Eggplant.

Eggplant has a flexible roster of team members. Lori Zito, Rebecca McGirr and Adam Mahan of last weekend's lineup are regulars, and Alex Swindle has filmed the team several times. Jason Jones, however, usually trains and competes with AZ Defiance. He had posted scores with his own team on the previous weekend in the AAA/Advanced Class competition of the Cloud Games.

AZ Defiance were the only team in this category, and they did not come back for the next ASL meet on the following weekend, except for Jason Jones who filled the open Eggplant slot.

Eggplant had serious competition in the A Class, as Where's Gabby? were back for the team's second meet. They had started in the AA Class in March this year, and a different lineup signed up for the A Class last weekend.

Where's Gabby? is actually a team from Colorado, as ASL Director Eliana Rodriguez reported from Eloy. Gabby Pisano, who is responsible for the team name, has only just over 80 jumps: "She did amazing, and her team had some great jumps." Her father Steve Pisano was also in the team's lineup this time.

The June leaderboard is now featuring six teams from three different countries in the A Class, with three of them from the United States, where this category will be included in the national championships for the first time. The Rookie Class is only a part of the national championships in Great Britain, which is showing on the leaderboard of this category in June. Three of the four teams competed in the United Kingdom Skydiving League this month.

The local Gold Diggers were back for their second meet after joining the Arizona Skydiving League in May, and it was the same lineup with a new videographer. The Gold Diggers said that they made their best jumps, while the performance wasn't caught well on the videos.

There was also a AAA Class team that participated somehow last weekend. The British national team in 4-way Open, Chimera, has been eager to get back to competition mode since the restart of 4-way training and competition in the United Kingdom.

Chimera competed at the season opener of the United Kingdom Skydiving League (UKSL) at the beginning of June, right before the cancellation of the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 by the complete British delegation for the event, as the NSL News reported on June 11th.

Chimera's scores for the June draw of the international NSL 4-way network were still on the AAA Class leaderboard when the Arizona Skydiving League was up for the June meet last weekend. Chimera's previous scores were for the same June draw and could not be used again.

Chimera will also be back in meet action on the upcoming weekend and at the next UKSL competition with the July draw. Eventually, a new and separate AAA Class draw was sent to England for Chimera. The weather situation allowed only the completion of three rounds. However, Chimera will be back in meet action again with a new draw this weekend.
