Did You Know...

... that the Qatar Cheetahs follow a gradual progression in their young 4-way career?

Last live outdoor competition in November 2019: Qatar Tigers at Skydive City
posted May 9th, 2021 - The three coaches of Qatar's Formation Skydiving 4-way delegation (Tigers - Cheetahs - Lions), Gary Smith, Luc Verstrepen, Marin Ferre, had explained their situation with the teams during the NSL Live Talk on 16 October 2020. Qatar Falcons 8-way coach Jeremie Rollett and Gary Smith had discussed several topics earlier last year.

The Qatar Tigers participated in the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 for their restart after a long corona virus break. Gary Smith, Luc Verstrepen and Marin Ferre explained how difficult it was for the Qatar teams to keep in shape somehow while they were waiting for the next training opportunities.

The NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 was the only competition for the Qatar Tigers before the next cloud event, this time the Shamrock Showdown 2021, offered the next outdoor opportunity. Once again the Tigers could not look back at a lot of training before, and they still took on some of the competition sequences during their first training camp after the next break.

The Qatar Tigers attended their last real outdoor competition in November 2019 at the Asiana Championship. They had competed only at indoor events between the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia and the Asiana a year later.

Qatar Tigers and Qatar Cheetahs with Shamrock Showdowen Cloud rounds
Qatar delegation with Tigers and Falcons in DeLand 2011
Coach Gary Smith included the competition sequences of the Shamrock Showdown Cloud in the plan for the next training camp of the Qatar Tigers and sorted them according to the logical training order during the new restart. Three of the first four rounds, which were completed at the live event at Skydive City, fit to the plan, while the fast Round 2 was scheduled for a later time during the same training camp.

The weather conditions then interfered with the planned jump order, and the Qatar Tigers could not complete Round 2. However, coach and team had agreed to send the videos to the NSL cloud and simulate at least some kind of a competition situation.

Luc Verstrepen, coach of the Qatar Cheetahs, did the same with his 4-way lineup. He had all four rounds available at the end of his training camp, and the Cheetahs are now waiting for the official InTime evaluation of their competition sequences.

The 4-way competition of the Shamrock Showdown Cloud 2021 will not be continued beyond Round 4, even though some additional rounds might be featured later on.

A Class: Qatar Cheetahs at the ESL Championship 2019
The Qatar Cheetahs are one of the two new 4-way teams that the Qatar Formation Skydiving delegation recruited for the time when members of the Qatar Tigers may not continue. The national 4-way team has trained and competed together for over a decade, as the team members explained in the NSL Live Talk on 23 December 2019.

The Cheetahs are at a very similar point and at similar ages as the Tigers members were when they started their skydiving and 4-way careers. Coach Luc Verstrepen, former NMP PCH HayaBusa member, had provided more details of the new generation of Formation Skydiving competitors from Qatar on 11 November 2019.

The Qatar Tigers launched their team career in the AAA/Open Class, while the Cheetahs have been following the NSL categories for a more gradual progression. They started with their first competition in the A Class of the ESL Championship 2019, where the three teams of the Qatar delegation took the Top 3 positions as guest teams.

The Cheetahs have mastered the AA Class dive pool by now and performed the first four rounds of the Shamrock Showdown Cloud 2021 during their last training camp in Portugal. Three of the four blocks in the first four rounds were new AA Class blocks beyond the eight blocks of the A Class dive pool. The videos of the Cheetahs performance can be previewed before the scores will be added.
