NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that the A Class was once again the most popular category?

CASL co-director Matt Alarif with SDC RhEvolution XP and coach Andrew Happick
posted May 10th, 2021 - The current overall leaderboard combines an impressive total number of 23 teams in the four NSL categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR). More 4-way teams are back in the air, this time at outdoor meets in three different league regions of the United States, and more scores from the Northern Plains Skydiving League will still be added.

It was only a 2-week time-frame that brought the 23 teams together on the same leaderboard after using the same competition draw. The situation during the corona virus crisis resulted in extended time-frames for the competition draws to offer teams and leagues more flexibility and still match meet dates of other affiliated leagues in the NSL Network.

The format for the outdoor events now matches World Tunnel League and Indoor Cloud League where each month has been offering the same competition draw for teams and events at different wind-tunnels and different times within the same month.

Each of the three networked leagues had great participation at their respective events. Arizona completed already the league's 4th meet this year, which generated the highest number of teams since Michelle Karamon and Eliana Rodriguez restarted the league in January 2019. Scott Latinis had 11 teams at Spaceland San Marcos for the first 2021 meet of the Texas Skydiving League, and the Carolina Skydiving League now added five more teams to the same leaderboard.

CASL co-director Jamie Caldwell with Gummy Bears
The NSL News had announced the season opener of the Carolina Skydiving League on April 2nd. Jamie Caldwell, Matt Alarif and Dustin Fowler brought the 4-way community in the Carolinas back to action after almost two years of hibernation. The last CASL meet before the break took place in July 2019.

Jamie Caldwell and Matt Alarif both competed with their own teams, as well, Jamie Caldwell with A Class team Gummy Bears, Matt Alarif with SDC RhEvolution XP. Skydive Carolina in Chester hosted the 2021 season opener, and the five CASL teams competed in three of the four NSL categories.

SDC RhEvolution XP had a very promising season opener and launched their 2021 season with the highest average in team history. The U.S. indoor champion in the Advanced Class of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021 completed all ten rounds of the NSL draw last weekend for a realistic check of the performance level.

Result was the 13.9 average that beats the team's previous 13.7 at the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships at Skydive Arizona in November, which was boosted by the Super Sequence in Round 1. The previous RhEvolution lineup with Skydive Midwest NEXT members Gorka Amian and Greg Oldendick had a 13.8 in their records.

On home turf with flexible lineup in October: Eggplant 21.1 in March
The family lineup of Carolina Relative Humility XP in the team's third year represented the Carolina Skydiving League in the AA Class, and the other three CASL teams selected the A Class for their first competition of the year.

Jamie Caldwell's Gummy Bears were in the 1-point battle for the 2nd place on the A Class leaderboard, which featured once again the best-attended category. A total of ten teams completed five of the six competition rounds, with ASL team Eggplant 21.1 finishing in the top spot either way.

Toxic Lead (Texas) and Patient Zero (Arizona) were tied after Round 5 (31 - 31), with Gummy Bears (CASL) one single point behind (30). Toxid Lead also completed the 6th round with the team's highest score of the meet (10). Only Eggplant had two 2-digit scores on the A Class leaderboard.

The new USPA test category at the national championships had a very promising start into the 2021 season, where the first winner will receive USPA medals at Skydive Arizona in October. Eggplant will have the home advantage at the USPA Nationals 2021, with one of their flexible lineups. Seven different team members, including the video slot, have posted the scores for the 11 ASL rounds this year so far...
