Did You Know...

... that the 6th DIPC has been postponed until December 2021?

Deputy Head of the Technical Committee and Assistant Meet Director Helmut Schlecht
posted Feb 4th, 2021 - The NSL News reported from Skydive Sebastian on January 17th. Skydive Midwest NEXT was visiting SDC Rhythm XP's winter home for a training camp, and JaNette Lefkowitz was coaching the team.

The update from Sebastian included NSL Live Talk with the new NEXT lineup and conversations with JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz. The Rhythm founders mentioned that they had finalized their travel plans to attend the restart of the Dubai International Parachute Championship (6th DIPC) event at the end of this month.

In fact, JaNette Lefkowitz told the NSL News that she would be back in her inside center slot in Dubai, as Christy Frikken is not available for the trip to the Arabian Peninsula. JaNette Lefkowitz was in the SDC Rhythm XP lineup that won the USPA Nationals 2019 after a dramatic jump-off finish against Arizona Airspeed. Christy Frikken joined the team when JaNette Lefkowitz decided to take a break after winning the USPA 4-way title and qualifying for the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

Unfortunately, JaNette Lefkowitz is not getting her comeback or reunion opportunity with SDC Rhythm XP after the 6th DIPC was canceled, due to the corona virus implications. Helmut Schlecht, Deputy Head of the Technical Committee and Assistant Meet Director of the 6th DIPC, informed the participants of the cancellation yesterday.

6th DIPC 2020 - Postponed
Dear Participants, on behalf of the Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr. Nasser Al Neyadi, the Director of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Yousif Hassan
Al Hammadi and his Deputy Mr. Mohammed Yousuf Abdul Rahman, I have to inform you with deep regret that the 6th DIPC 2020 has to be postponed to
December 07th - 18th, 2021 due to the recent aggravation of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Details: Because of the appearance of the highly infectious new mutation of Covid 19 in Great Britain
(B.1.1.7.) and South Africa (B.1.351), which has meanwhile become widespread and is still spreading,
border closings followed, which have already been implemented in some countries, as well as further
tightened entry and exit restrictions. This also applies to the United Arab Emirates. Therefore,
a meeting with the Head of the Dubai Disaster Control and representatives of the Dubai Sports
Council was scheduled for yesterday, February 02nd, 2021. The three Gentlemen mentioned above
took part in the meeting as representatives of the Organizing Committee 6th DIPC.

Taking into account the aggravated pandemic situation described above, the Government of the
Emirate Dubai has decided not to allow the implementation of the 6th DIPC 2020 at the moment.
We are aware that this decision brings multiple problems for all of you, who decided to take part at
the 6th DIPC. Unfortunately, what is announced in Bulletin no. 1 and no. 2, paragraph 25, section 3
(canceling on short notice), could not be prevented due to the circumstances described. After receipt
of the completed final registrations by January 15th, 2021, the Director of the Organizing Committee
arranged a conference call on January 17, 2021 to decide how to proceed, based on the pandemic
situation at the time. The decision at this time (17 January 2021) was to continue the preparations and to pursue the implementation of the 6th DIPC 2020 as planned.
Unfortunately, the decision at the time could no longer be upheld due to the worsening of the pandemic development described above. The already transferred
entry fee will be refunded!

Now we hope with you that the postponed 6th DIPC 2020 can be held in December 2021 under much better conditions.

Helmut Schlecht

Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard with Dubai's Formation Skydiving delegation in 2014
The Dubai International Parachute Championship was launched in 2010 with the inaugural event. The large cash prizes for the medal positions in 4-way Open and 4-way Women ($20,000 - $15,000 - $10,000 in both events) and the unique meet environment downtown Dubai attracted the best teams in the world to the 1st DIPC. The two FAI world meet medal winners of 2010 (France - Arizona Airspeed) and NMP PCH HayaBusa took the prize money in 4-way Open, the French Deep Blue team won the $20,000 in the 4-way Women event.

Dubai hosted the event every year until the 5th DIPC took place in December 2014 for the last time. It was the second DIPC event that SDC Rhythm XP attended and where they won the cash prizes for the 3rd places. The event was discontinued after hosting it in 2010 and 2011, followed by the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012, and two more DIPC events in 2013 and 2014.

The world-class event was very popular in the skydiving community, and Dubai had also developed a well trained Formation Skydiving delegation in the wake of the events. Craig Girard and Eliana Rodriguez had moved to Dubai and created several competitive 4-way and 8-way teams, with a solid foundation of new skydivers supporting the project.

The announcement of the event's restart was good news for the sport, before the corona virus crisis impacted on it just as much as on other Formation Skydiving competitions. However, the 6th DIPC is only postponed, and the plan is to host it in December this year.
