Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed misses outdoor competition?

NSL Live Talk with Arizona Airspeed in May
posted Jul 17th, 2020 - The NSL News has recently spent a lot of time to connect with teams and competitors online, due to the implications of the corona virus pandemic. Windtunnel and outdoor activities both have been on a hold worldwide, even though there has not been much coordination between governments and federations of the different countries, except for the cancellation and rescheduling of the FAI Mondial 2020.

Events have been canceled, as travel restrictions and other crisis-related regulations would have made it extremely difficult to organize competitions with gatherings of larger groups of skydivers. Many skydiving centers and windtunnels have reopened by now, and skydivers are back at indoor and outdoor training, while running events is still very difficult.

NSL Live Talk has continued online for months, and it was a refreshing situation when the NSL News could eventually meet again with a team, live at a skydiving center.

Arizona Airspeed was at Skydive Paraclete XP for outdoor training when the NSL News visited on Friday, July 17th. Two months had gone by since the last live conversation during an indoor and outdoor camp at the same place in May.

Only indoor scores so far: Arizona Airspeed's current lineup
The conversation in May was the first one with the complete new lineup, even though the NSL News had the opportunity for an earlier NSL Live Talk when new members Christopher Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall visited iFLY Orlando in January.

More than 200 training jumps later, the complete Airspeed lineup was back in Raeford, while there was a new videographer behind the Airspeed camera. David French is not coming back after his three years with Arizona Airspeed.

Taylor Buffington has been living and working at Skydive Arizona for three years, and he has been filming several meet rounds of the Arizona Skydiving League meets for Eliana Rodriguez and Michelle Karamon. Now he is ready for more and will most likely replace David French in Airspeed's camera slot.

Friday was the last day of Airspeed's recent training camp, and it was dedicated only to NSL Live Talk and fun jumps with the team and without the 4-way jumpsuits.

Arizona Airspeed scores with the new lineup
NSL Live Talk with Arizona Airspeed on 17 July 2020
Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine will continue on Saturday with Airspeed XP8 for a 1-week 8-way camp. Christopher Kuhlmann, Joey Marshall and Taylor Buffington go on a break until the next Airspeed 4-way training.

The NSL News was asking the two halves of the active Airspeed lineup how they feel about the different intensities. Joey Marshall had explained earlier in the conversation that he and his Ranch 2nd Generation team mate Christopher Kuhlmann are very excited and motivated when Airspeed 4-way training is coming up.

Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine master the double-duties in a very different way. They perceive the 8-way training somehow like a part of their recreation from 4-way intensity. They said that 8-way training and competition is more a mental challenge compared to the physical 4-way challenges.

All Airspeed members miss competition. They are hoping that the recent USPA request for feedback related to the USPA Nationals 2020 will result in the confirmation of the event. The current lineup has only indoor scores in the team records so far.
