Did You Know...

... that Amnesya won the Italian 4-way title with Sinapsi PD member Luca Marchioro in the lineup?

Amnesya with Luca Marchioro at the Italian Nationals 2018
posted Aug 31st, 2018 - The NSL News reported on 13 August 2018 that Amnesya won the Italian Outdoor Nationals 2018 and unified the country's indoor and outdoor titles for the first time.

It was a rocky road for the new Italian outdoor champions to get to this point. An earlier story on May 15th had reported that inside center Giuseppe Cossu dislocated his right shoulder in Round 2 of the national indoor championships during an inter of Block 11 (Photon - Photon). Giuseppe Cossu taped the shoulder and still completed the remaining rounds to win the team's first championship title.

He was planning to be fully recovered three weeks after the indoor championships and give his team enough time for outdoor training before the national championships in August in Ravenna and then for the FAI World Meet in October.

It turned out that his shoulder needed more rest and recovery efforts than expected. Amnesya actually had to stop training for two months, and even the participation at the outdoor nationals was in jeopardy. However, the team finally decided at the end of July to compete in Ravenna and find a substitute for the event.

Amnesya was fortunate to find a very experienced Italian 4-way competitor to fill the open inside center slot.

In fact, Luca Marchioro is the only Italian competitor in this slot who has won a medal at a world championship. He was the inside center for Sinapsi PD who won the FAI bronze medals for Italy in 2006.

It was still a difficult task. Amnesya made only 30 training jumps with Luca Marchioro in the last four days before the competition at the beginning of August. The team's major concern were the exits from the Cessna Caravan, and one of them eventually did not go so well in Round 2, which Amnesya lost by five points to eX3MO.

However, Amnesya recovered instantly and won Round 3 by four points to close the large gap. eX3MO still won Round 4 by one point before Amnesya was settled with exits and the lineup and did not give away another round for a 4-point advantage after Round 10.

Giuseppe Cossu is now ready for training action, and Amnesya will compete with the complete lineup at the FAI World Meet 2018 and at the FAI Indoor World Cup in Bahrain, as well.

FAI bronze medals in 2006: Sinapsi PD
Amnesya's lineup at the national championships created a very special situation with a reunion of three Sinapsi PD members in three different teams. Luca Marchioro (Amnesya), Marco Arrigo (eX3MO) and Livio Piccolo (6.1.0.) are three of the original Sinapsi members who attended their first FAI World Meet in Spain 2001 (15.9 - 6th).

They competed for Italy again, now with Arianna de Benedetti in the lineup, in 2003 (20.3 - 5th) and 2004 (21.0 - 4th) before Pete Allum replaced Marco Arrigo for the world meet in Germany 2006 where Sinapsi PD won the FAI bronze medals with a 22.0 average after four rounds.

Luca Marchioro and Livio Piccolo continued four more years with Pete Allum and Steve Hamilton in the Sinapsi lineup and attended their last world meet together in Menzelinsk 2010 (23.6 - 6th). Eight years later, they still competed at the Italian Nationals 2018 with their recent teams, together with their original team mate Marco Arrigo, and the event brought the three most experienced Italian 4-way competitors to Ravenna.

However, the Amnesya mix of former and current Italian 4-way generations separate again, and Amnesya will represent Italy with the complete lineup in Australia and Bahrain...
