Did You Know...

... that Gryttjom Volo won the 3rd consecutive Swedish 4-way title?

Mattias Nord with Joey Jones
posted Jul 31st, 2015 - Sweden's national championship was completed after all ten rounds, and defending champion Gryttjom Volo did not have too much trouble taking back the lead and extending it to a 9-point victory at the end.

Joey Jones' first update from Sweden on Friday had his guest team Fusion surprisingly in 1st place by three points after Round 3. Gryttjom Volo had lost a total of seven points in the first three rounds, most of them due to video angles.

The highly experienced Volo competitors, including former Arcteryx member Mattias Nord, were apparently not too impressed, even after losing another three points in Round 4. The major damage was over then, and only a few more penalties here and there did not have much of an impact on the outcome of the competition any longer.

Gryttjom Volo exit in Round 6

Joey Jones, #Powered by Sun Path Products, roving reporter from Sweden, also presented the second part of the meet story with more details.

He said that no jumps were made on the second meet day. Then the skies opened up, and things got underway. His team Fusion had a small issue on the first jump of the day in Round 4:

"The door was very wet and muddy, and I slipped on the Block 10 exit. I hit the door with my shin and went totally head down. The funny thing is that I actually put grip tape on the plane just a few days before. Too bad I didn't put my foot on it for exit. I am not sure what hurts worse - my shin or my pride..."

Bronze after 2-point battle: Aurora
Joey Jones confirmed that Volo had some issues with the video angle in Round 4: "They still managed to outscore us by two points. The trend continued and they finished strong and secured their 4th national title averaging 16.0 to Fusion's 15.1 average."

Gryttjom team Whuhuu easily won the silver medals with a 12.1 average, while there was a serious battle for bronze going on between the AAA Class newcomers C4 and Aurora. Joey Jones finished his report from Sweden commenting this battle and the event organization:

"It was a back and forth battle, but Aurora's experience and training came through in the end. Two nice rounds to finish the meet gave them a 2-point edge and the Swedish bronze medals. Thanks to all the staff from Skydive Stockholm who helped make this meet happen despite all the weather issues, especially meet director Carolina Mallwitz! See you all next year. Now I am off to Skydive Hibaldstow preparing for the UK Nationals."
