Did You Know...

... that the Colorado Skydiving League's Rookies/Scrambles event is up for tomorrow?

Current and forecast weather in Colorado
posted Mar 11th, 2005 - The NSL News story of February 26 announced the comeback of the Colorado Skydiving League, directed by Arizona Directe 4-way competitor Brian Vande Krol. The first event of the CSL 2005 season is scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

The original date was this Sunday. Unfortunately, the regional weather forecast seems to have trouble on the horizon for the Colorado skydivers. League Director Brian Vande Krol tries to make the best out of the situation. He announced today that Saturday will be the main event day.

The first event of the CSL 2005 season is hosted by the Mile-Hi Skydiving Center near Boulder. This meet targets specifically the grass root level of skydiving competition and includes only the CSL Rookie Class competition and CSL 4-way Scrambles.

CSL Director Brian Vande Krol
Vande Krol had defined these events in his earlier message: "The Rookie Class is an easy and fun way to learn more about 4-way. The skydives are three points per page, all randoms. This class is intended for low-experience jumpers to get their feet wet in competitive 4-way with a real team. There are no restrictions on experience level, so you can get a coach or a ringer on your team. The team registration fee is $45 per event, plus the cost of your jumps. Teams are encouraged to supply their own videographer."

The CSL Scrambles are even closer to the grass roots than the Rookie Class: "The Scrambles event is for anyone who can fly on their bellies well enough to be in a 4-way formation skydive! The participants will be divided into four experience levels, and team members will be randomly drawn from each experience group. There are usually quite a few highly experienced skydivers on each team. This makes a great opportunity for low-timers to do some fun, low pressure 4-way with a strong group. Just show up and enjoy! There is no registration fee, and the cost of $90.00 covers three jumps with video. Note to low-timers: Don’t be afraid to join this event. The stronger skydivers know what they are getting themselves into! They are hoping to demonstrate to you just how much fun RW can be! If you have questions about your qualifications, talk to Courtney or myself."

The plan has now changed for the upcoming weekend, and participants are invited to come and play already on Saturday. Vande Krol added the details of the change of plans and additional rules in his latest announcement:

Hello skydivers,

The weather gods have not favored us for Sunday. So we are changing the date to Saturday (tomorrow). I know some of you cannot make it until later in the day, so here is the plan:

The Rookie meet will happen in the morning. Teams must be registered by 8:30, ready for the first load by 9:30. Scrambles meet will be held in 2 heats. The first heat will start at 9:30, and hopefully will be finished by 1:00. Be registered by 8:30! The second heat will start at 2:00.  Be registered by 1:00. If you wish, you can compete in both heats. Cost for one heat is $90. Cost for an additional heat is $82.50. Keep in mind that the weather for tomorrow is still a bit questionable. The winds might pick up thru the day, so if you can make the first heat, your chances are better. Tom Aussem has assured us that the tandem and student load is very light for tomorrow, so it shouldn't be a problem getting the jumps in. The lovely, gracious and talented Mary Santangelo is bringing some extra creepers so that three teams can creep at the same time.  It's gonna be great! One last note: There is an unconfirmed rumor that the rookie teams may be competing for some free tunnel time, sponsored by Skyventure thru the National Skydiving League. The same honor may be bestowed on the scrambles teams. No promises, just rumors.

Blue Skies - Good Eyes - Go Compete!

Brian Vande Krol, CSL Director
