Did You Know...

... that last weekend featured three generations of MESL leadership?

Jenacity lineup at the MESL season opener
posted May 24th, 2011 - The NSL News reported on 21 May 2011 that Tenacity members would compete in Florida and the Mideast at the same time last weekend.

It really happened, even though the actual team name does not appear on any of last weekend's leaderboards. However, Jenacity comes pretty close to the original team name. The NSL News assumes that the "J" at the beginning of the name is somehow related to substitute "J"ohn Hart "J"r. who filled a slot for a missing Tenacity member.

The season opener at Start Skydiving also included the transition of the MESL leadership. Mike Ashley, who has been guiding the league in the past years, was still on camera for Dynamic Attempt while he was helping Tencity member Joan Esson to run the meet for her first time. Thanks for all your great help, Mike.

Another interesting aspect is the fact that the Dynamic Attempt lineup included Randy Connell who launched the Indiana Skydiving League in 2001. Mike Ashley began filming participating 4-way teams a little bit later, as well.

The Indiana Skydiving League then turned into the Mideast Skydiving League, and Mike Ashley continued when Randy Connell stepped back. Joan Esson takes over now, as Mike Ashley has to take a break for a little while. Last weekend featured three generations of MESL leadership at Start Skydiving, and Randy Connell's beautiful ISL/MESL logo still decorates the MESL home page.

The three Tenacity members (Joan Esson, Shannon Sweeney, Arianna Williams) with John Hart Jr. and Beth Shell on camera at Start Skydiving were not able to fend off former Tenacity member Jane McGuire at Skydive Miami, who competed for Teiwaz South last weekend. However, the scores od four of the six rounds were very close, and it was a good inter-league competition in the AA Class, which also included Been A While of the MidAtlantic Skydiving League.

4-way veteran Ed Lightle even guided his Start Skydiving Rookie Class lineup Bushwackers to the first place on the Rookie Class leaderboard last weekend. Four other Rookie Class lineups attended their first 4-way meet at Cross Keys at the same time.

New MESL Director Joan Esson reported that Round 1 was the first jump of the season for some competitors due to all the rain in the area earlier this year. It was also the first 4-way meet ever for other participants. This still did not stop anybody from showing excellent performances, Joan Esson said.

The Bushwackers, a pick-up team in the Rookie Class, competed for the first time and ended up with an impressive 6.0 average. Joan Esson expects this team to grow tremendously throughout the season. Start Skydiving has scheduled the next meet for June 18th.
