Did You Know...

... that NSL-TV features Black Majik of 2005 and 2011?

Black Majik lineup of 2005
posted May 12th, 2011 - The NSL News story on 1 April 2011 introduced the Bodyflight Black Majik lineup that competed at the World Challenge 2011 in the Rookie Class.

This story included a few training sessions of the team that did the Rookie Class sequences upside down flying on their backs.

The NSL News mentioned that it was not the first time that Black Majik member Joey Jones brought in his freeflying skills to a 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

He had competed with a different Black Majik at the June meet of the Florida Skydiving League in 2005.

The 2005 lineup consisted of Thomas Hughes (Center Outside), Joey Jones (Center Inside), Juliana Se (Tail) and Joel Tambor (Point).

Black Majik of 2005 ended up in 3rd place of the A Class competition after a good battle with Zero Tolerance Miami.

Black Majik lineup of 2011
NSL-TV found the videos of the FSL 2005 competition in the archives and uploaded them for this story. They come together with the ten rounds of Bodyflight Black Majik at the World Challenge this year, which makes for an entertaining combination.

This year's lineup (Tristan Hampson, Joey Jones, Paul Mayer, Rob Silver) outscored two other Rookie Class teams in the 5-team field and won the bronze medals with an 11.7 average after ten rounds. Joey Jones' 4.7 average of 2005 does not look so impressive compared to that.

However, there were two major differences between the athletic challenges in 2005 and 2011. The 2005 lineup was jumping from a Twin Otter and had to deal with the exits.

It is quite impressive to see how Black Majik of 2005 pulled the formations out the door, while the 2011 lineup only had to enter the flying chamber.

The other major difference was the dive pool. Black Majik of 2005 competed in the A Class and had to master five blocks in the 6-round meet, while Black Majik of 2011 had signed up for the Rookie Class competition.

The competition draw for the 10-round meet in the A Class at Bodyflight Bedford included the same five blocks that the 2005 lineup had to master. The dive pool for the A Class has not changed ever since.

It would not be a big surprise if Joey Jones came back with the same Black Majik lineup at the World Challenge 2012 to compete in the A Class, as well.

Host Paul Mayer, who competed with Joey Jones' upside down lineup this year for the first time, has one year to learn the eight block techniques. He is in a situation that allows him to learn quickly, no excuses...
