Did You Know...

... that Georgia Skydiving League teams of 2000 and 2011 have someone in common?

Mr. Pink members of 2000 and 2011: Glen and Jennifer Hauenstein
posted May 10th, 2011 - Back to the 2011 reality of the Georgia Skydiving League after the NSL News story on 7 May 2011, which reported the situation at the GSL May meet in 2000.

An earlier story this year, on 13 April 2011, introduced two teams from Georgia who prepared for the first meet of the 2011 season. GT Wreckless and GD Techers both represented the Georgia Tech Skydiving Club at the beginning and have continued with their team projects.

GSL Manager Greg Lennartz reported after the meet that he was happy to have at least a few scores of the two teams that hung out for the whole weekend. The weather conditions were not very supportive and did not encourage teams and competitors to make the trip to Skydive The Farm.

Greg Lennartz said that it was a decent turnout considering the conditions:

"The wind was not cooperating with anyone in Georgia all Saturday, so a lot of people did not stay for the weekend or come out at all. Sunday we were able to squeeze in a few rounds with the two Tech teams that stuck around all weekend, but we were originally expecting five or even six teams."

Five or six teams would be a great turnout, and Greg Lennartz knows the 4-way community in Georgia well. He is working on the dates for the other meets this year. In the meantime, the NSL News tried unsuccessfully to find video footage of the Georgia Skydiving League in 2000. However, another video features the same two GSL teams who competed at the May meet of the Georgia Skydiving League in 2000, Nemesis and Mr. Pink. They attended the NSL Championship 2000 in November and became a part of the TV production of the event.

There is even a direct connection between the video of the NSL Championship 2000 and the teams that competed at the GSL May meet this year. DeLand Genesis/PD Blue competed at the NSL Championship, as well, and won the 2000 title.

The four Genesis members all originate from the Georgia Tech Skydiving Club and moved to Florida when they decided to become full time skydivers and competitors. Shannon Pilcher and Ian Bobo eventually won 4-way gold medals at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2006 with DeLand Fire.

Original Genesis member Kyle Collins did not follow all the way through with his world champion team mates. However, he is still an active skydiver and involved in 4-way as a coach for the new Georgia Tech generation, including GT Wreckless and GD Techers. He provides them with valuable tips and coaching, as Greg Lennartz explained earlier. Kyle Collins also comes back for Genesis reunions once in a while, last time at the Shamrock Showdown 2010.
