Did You Know...

... that two Farm teams prepare for the first 2011 battle in Georgia?

Visitor from Georgia in Palatka: Greg Lennartz with PD Blue jumpsuit and Kyle Collins' helmet
posted Apr 13th, 2011 - The Georgia Skydiving League launches its 2011 season this weekend, and the new GSL leadership is promising great momentum. GT Wreckless members are planning to blow fresh air into the GSL 2011 sails, as they are highly motivated after a very successful 2010 season.

The Georgia Tech team finished the 2010 season with gold medals at the NSL Championship and USPA silver medals in the Advanced Class competition of the Collegiates 2010. Only a West Point lineup was able to beat GT Wreckless' 13.8 average in Eloy in December/January.

GT Wreckless is now looking forward to the start of the 2011 season, and Team Speaker Greg Lennartz updated the NSL News with team news and plans for this year after he had visited the Falling Gators' 13th Annual Collegiate Boogie at Skydive Palatka in January.

Original DeLand Genesis lineup with Kyle Collins (top right)
He said that former DeLand Genesis member Kyle Collins has been helping his team with coaching and tips and that he will continue to do so. Greg Lennartz remembered that he was jumping with Kyle Collins before he had an A license and then again later when he and Scott Franklin taught the Wreckless members the 4-way secrets.

He thinks that Kyle Collins is missing 4-way competition, and things have also changed now. GT Wreckless may be be more familiar with the new Blocks 1 and 13 than the two coaches...

Greg Lennartz expects the 2011 season to become a big year for his team. All team members will be graduating, and they will no longer have support by the Georgia Tech university. Greg Lennartz will continue to serve as the president of the club until the end of the semester before a new Georgia Tech student will take over.

GT Wreckless at the NSL Championship 2010
GT Wreckless will be training at Skydive the Farm now, which is a change for the team. The Georgia Tech club has been based out of Skydive Atlanta for quite some time, but the ambitious 4-way team needs to train from a Twin Otter and had to move to the Farm. The Georgia Tech club is still at Skydive Atlanta, and the Wreckless members plan to visit frequently, help the club members as much as they can and make fun jumps there.

Paraclete XP4 member Andy Honigbaum will be the coach when Wreckless trains indoors in Raeford. He was the team's tunnel coach in 2010, and Wreckless has worked very well under his guidance and with his coaching style. Greg Lennartz gives Andy Honigbaum great credit for an awesome job last year.

He said that his team will have a busy 2011 competition season, as well. Greg Lennartz takes the position of the Georgia Skydiving League Director that Steve Chalfant has had in the past years and expects this to keep him very busy.

STF VELO-X at the Shamrock Showdown 2011
His team plans to compete regularly against the main GSL rivals of STF VELO-X, the Farm's 4-way team of 2010, as Greg Lennartz explains this relationship: "They are good friends of ours, so we have a fun and friendly rivalry. We plan on working together as teams because we believe there is always something one team can learn from the other, so we are excited about training next to those guys this year."

Greg Lennartz was also the alternate for STF VELO-X at the USPA Nationals 2010 where the team finished with a 6.8 average in 20th place of 31 teams. The Farm's first home team then attended the Shamrock Showdown 2011 and finished with a much improved 8.2 average in the AA Class competition.

GT Wreckless plans to finish up the 2011 season once again at the NSL Championship in Deland, and the team is looking forward to the event: "We had a great time last year and can't wait for it again this year."
