Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's 1-point moves in Rounds 7 and 8 made the World Meet a thriller?

2-point lead gone after Round 8: Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge
posted Sep 25th, 2010 - The NSL News goes back to the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 with the competition videos of two new rounds. It's once again time for the Top 6 teams, and Rounds 7 and 8 were very exciting ones on the very top of the leaderboard.

The last review of the Top 6 teams on 16 September 2010 mentioned that the new 4-way world champion, Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge, was the only team that ever defeated Arizona Airspeed's lineup of 2007 - 2010 at an outdoor competition, which turned out to be the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk.

The defending world champions of 2008 put up the best fight in this lineup's 4-year period. The first six rounds had been a thriller, and the French team had worked out a slim 2-point lead after winning three and giving away two rounds. Both teams tied their scores in Round 6.

Back to a share of the lead after Round 8: Arizona Airspeed
Airspeed had lost the fast Round 3 by three points and won them right back with a sensational performance in the 3-block sequence of Round 4.

However, France was just as unimpressed after Airspeed's 3-point winner in Round 4 as Airspeed had shaken off the 3-point loss in Round 3 and won Round 5 by two points. Nothing changed in Round 6 where both teams left the other Top 6 teams behind by a few points.

Airspeed likes to come from behind and took action again in the next two rounds, which are now featured on NSL-TV. The French 2-point lead was simply eliminated after Round 8, and the new tie in first place was then carried over into Round 10.

The new videos of Rounds 7 and 8 show how Airspeed took back the two points, which brought the excitement and pressure to the highest possible level.

4-way thriller for the audience in Menzelinsk
There was not much other movement in Rounds 7 and 8 on the top of the leaderboard. The other four teams had settled in their positions. There was only a 2-point difference between the lowest score (21) and the highscore (23) in Round 7, which was also the only round where none of the Top 6 teams had any point deductions.

It was very similar in Round 8 where the Top 4 teams were clean once again. Only Evolution and Sinapsi both lost two points. Nothing changed between the Sky Panthers and NMP-PCH Hayabusa, and the Canadian team added two more points to the lead oder Sinapsi.

However, Airspeed's 1-point moves in both rounds was enough to keep every participant and observer on their toes. The fast sequence of Round 9 was coming up next, and it was a fact that everything was possible again.
