NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Rotor Out aims at the Top 10 at the World Meet in Russia?

Australia's national 4-way team of 2010: Rotor Out
posted Apr 30th, 2010 - The NSL News story on 17 March 2010 covered the Australian Nationals 2010. Rotor Out defended the 2009 title successfully and will represent Australia this year at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010.

The same story mentioned the possibility that Rotor Out's Center Outside, Jens Goennemann, might now compete against his former German 8-way team mates of FSC Eisenach. Markus Bastuck, Dieter Schwarz, Jörn and Max Thiele, with Alexander Hau on camera, are still and again the 4-way lineup for Germany at the World Meet in Russia.

Jens Goennemann competed for Germany in 4-way and 8-way for several years before he moved to Australia. In fact, his 4-way team EADS was the German national team before FSC Eisenach took this position. EADS and FSC Eisenach competed together in 8-way when EADS retired from 4-way.

German national 4-way team for 2010: FSC Eisenach
Jens Goennemann recently informed the NSL News that he decided to compete for Rotor Out and Australia this year. He added that he hopes for just as good a performance in Russia as Rotor Out had at the Australian Nationals this year. His team aims at a slot in the Top 10.

The Rotor Out plans bring up two interesting aspects for the World Meet in Russia. A Top 10 finish usually brings a team into contention for the unofficial amateur title at a World Championship of Formation Skydiving. Rotor Out's 18.0 average at the Australian Nationals would have done just that at the last World Meet 2008 in France.

FSC Eisenach placed 10th with a 17.4 average at the same meet. Dynamic Fource from the Netherlands (18.4) and the Spin Team from Italy (18.7) placed 7th and 8th in Maubeuge. Viva from Switzerland finished in 9th place with an 18.0 average.

German cheers for "Dude" before Round 10 at the World Cup 2010
The competition for the Top 10 slot and the unofficial amateur title is one part of the Australian goal for the World Meet in Russia. The other one relates only to Jens Goennemann. He said that he would also like to win one round against the German 4-way team and his former 8-way team mates. There are chances though that Rotor Out could win more than only one round.

The earlier story mentioned that FSC Eisenach's performance will depend on the German team's training efforts. Eisenach is capable of scoring around the 20-point benchmark, as the team posted a 20.8 average in 2009. However, lack of training resulted in a 17.4 average at the World Meet 2008 in France and a 16.7 average at the World Cup 2009. Rotor Out will most likely be able to score higher than that after the 18.0 average in March this year.

Eisenach's 16.7 average included a funny twist though, as videographer Alexander "Dude" Hau filled in for Jörn Thiele who had to leave the competition site before Round 10 was completed. Dude's performance helped to add a 10-pointer in the last round and can be reviewed in the following video.

Jens Goennemann with EADS at the World Meet 2006 in Germany
Jens Goennemann has already put pressure on his German fellow competitors before. In fact, former EADS members Olaf Biedermann, Jens Goennemann and Thomas Spielvogel had a reunion with guest player Davide Moy at the German Nationals 2009.

EADS finished with a 19.1 average and gave FSC Eisenach a good competition. However, Eisenach responded very strongly to the challenge and posted the highest team average and a new German record average of 20.8 last year. It was the first time that a German team scored above the 20-point average level in a 10-round meet.

Jens Goennemann will now pressure the German national team again, this time with his Australian Rotor Out team mates, Steph Bensley, Gary Nemirovsky and Darren Pearson. Darren Griggs is filming the team. The NSL News will follow up soon with information from Germany and FSC Eisenach's plans for the 2010 season.
