posted Oct 7th, 2026 - The 2026 outdoor season is not over yet. The sport's most important event is still to come this month: the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026 at Skydive Arizona in Eloy. Nevertheless, the indoor competition season has already begun, at least in Italy.

In fact, indoor activities never really come to an end, as teams and competitors in almost all freefall skydiving disciplines turn to indoor training, especially when weather conditions do not allow them to jump from aircraft and fly their parachutes. Basic individual, 4-way, and 8-way training also continues throughout the year. The Indoor Cloud League is perhaps the best example of a casual, year-round competition circuit.

FAI indoor World Cups and World Championships have taken place in the spring of recent years. National indoor championships are generally scheduled between the end of the outdoor season and the major FAI indoor events. However, countries use different qualification systems for these international FAI indoor competitions.

Italy, Great Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark have held their national indoor championships toward the end of the year, with some of these events also serving as qualifiers for FAI competitions just a few months later. Other countries, including the United States, hold their national indoor championships early in the year, with the results potentially determining qualification for the following year's FAI event.

Amnesya Fly X - Valkyrie at the Italian Indoor Nationals

---

After years of experience and experimentation, most competition experts seem to agree that the "indoor season" does not require as much time on the calendar as outdoor training and competition. A full indoor training day for a 4-way or 8-way team can accumulate at least 60 minutes of flying time. The same teams would need roughly 60 training jumps to achieve a comparable amount of training outdoors.

The balance between indoor and outdoor training remains fairly similar in terms of effort, time investment, and efficiency over the course of a full year. This is why the idea of a shorter indoor season, allowing more time for outdoor training, is worth considering. The scheduling of national indoor championships and the qualification rules for FAI indoor events will remain each country's responsibility. Next year's FAI Indoor World Championship in Germany could provide a starting point for a shorter indoor season, as the event is scheduled about a month earlier than in previous years, from March 15–20. However, Italy has consistently held its national indoor championships a few months after the outdoor championship since 2020. This year followed the same schedule, even though the timing is not easy for Italy's strongest 4-way team, Amnesya Fly X, to manage.

Italy's 4-way Open Class participation between 1985 and 2024

---

Over the years, Amnesya Fly X have developed different lineups for the two environments. Chiara Brunetti and Giuseppe Cossu train and compete indoors with Federico Angelotti and former NMP PCH HayaBusa member Michele Silvi, who was unavailable this time. Alessandro Anderlucci, a member of the outdoor lineup, teamed up with Roberto Mancini to fill Michele Silvi's indoor slot. The Amnesya indoor team will represent Italy in München next March.

The Italian delegation for the FAI Indoor World Championship will once again include a 4-way Women team. Valkyries had to defend their top position against a strong opponent, Psycho, and successfully did so, winning by 17 points. Valkyries/Fire Phoenix are exclusively an indoor team and have represented Italy in 4-way Women at every FAI indoor event since 2023.

As Italy's national 4-way Open team outdoors, Amnesya Fly X will have to switch quickly from indoor to outdoor mode. They won the national outdoor championship in August with the same lineup that will compete this month at Skydive Arizona. Chiara Brunetti, Giuseppe Cossu, and Federico Angelotti won the indoor title with Alessandro Anderlucci in the lineup, who will now make room for Roberto Mancini, while Sante Valentini will once again be on camera.

Amnesya Fly X missed the previous outdoor World Championship in Eloy in 2022, and they also did not make the trip to North Carolina in 2024. Their appearance this month marks Italy's comeback in 4-way Open after a flawless participation record between 1985 and 2018, followed by three consecutive absences from the event. Italy's previous 4-way Open team, featuring Chiara Brunetti, Giuseppe Cossu, Michele Silvi, and Mario Fatturoso, placed sixth in Australia in 2018.
