posted Jun 6th, 2026 - The NSL News launched its coverage leading up to the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026 with the first NSL Power Rankings on May 7th. Earlier previews related to the same event had already begun the process of providing as much information as possible about the competitive landscape between now and October.

The previews will continue with the goal of delivering up-to-date coverage all the way to Round 1 and throughout the competition itself. As usual, the post-event coverage will begin immediately after the conclusion of the championship and is expected to include interviews with teams, competitors, coaches and spectators, along with their perspectives and experiences from the event.

In the meantime, scores and news from national championships and other relevant competitions will provide fresh information, results and videos. Consequently, the NSL Power Rankings can always be expected to change as new performances and data become available. The unofficial leaderboard in the lead-up to the event is not based on early registrations by national 4-way teams, nor on a registration deadline, which has not yet been announced. Instead, the early NSL News coverage is based on informed analysis and projections, or, as Arizona Airspeed's Joey Marshall aptly described it during NSL Live Talk on April 1st, "speculative prediction."

The first preview featuring the NSL Power Rankings was based primarily on participation at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 at Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands last August. Teams from ten different countries represented their national 4-way delegations at the event.

The article also identified the teams that are currently expected to represent their countries in 4-way Open at the FAI World Championship and included them in the initial speculative predictions of the NSL Power Rankings. In addition, it highlighted several nations that are likely to be represented by different teams in October. Seven of the teams that competed at the Outdoor World Cup are expected to travel to Skydive Arizona for the world championship, while three countries will most likely send new lineups to Eloy. At that stage, the NSL News identified a total of 16 teams that could potentially represent their nations at the FAI Outdoor World Championship.

The next step was a closer examination of the results from the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026, which concluded at Weembi Lille in April. There remains a significant overlap between the indoor and outdoor competition scenes, even though many of the world's top competitors have noted that the differences between the two environments continue to grow from year to year. The evaluation of the Indoor World Cup results led to the addition of several teams to the NSL Power Rankings and confirmed the current total of 16 potential participants in the race for the world championship title in Eloy.

However, several teams currently listed in the NSL Power Rankings did not compete at either the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 or the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026. One of them is SOAR, the British outdoor 4-way champions of 2025, who would be eligible to represent Great Britain in Eloy.

Other potential national teams could be Savolo for South Africa and Havoc for Australia. Indonesia fielded different 4-way Open Class lineups at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026 and at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

Last but not least, one of the leading contenders for the unofficial world amateur championship title is also included in the current rankings. Airbus 4-way Illertissen last appeared in competition at the German Indoor Nationals in March 2026. The team won the national outdoor championship last year and comfortably secured qualification for the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2026. They will not arrive in Eloy as an unknown quantity. Airbus 4-way Illertissen return to outdoor competition action this weekend at the annual Paranodon Cup, providing an early opportunity to assess their current form. The NSL News will follow up with results and additional information from Illertissen after the event.
