Did You Know...

... that the combined 4-way leaderboard has its own NSL Power Rankings?

Combined Top 10 in 2025: Qatar Lions
posted Mar 12th, 2026 - The final part of the initial NSL Power Rankings for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026 next month is a combined 4-way leaderboard that is not part of the official FAI/ISC competition format. Teams competing in the 4-way Open Class—up to four teams in each category—can post their scores in any gender variation on the Open Class leaderboard, as long as they follow the other FAI/ISC rules and regulations.

All-female teams also have the opportunity to post their scores on a separate leaderboard and compete for their own set of FAI/ISC medals. However, all-female lineups may still choose to compete in the 4-way Open category if they wish. This was the case for Paraclete XP4 at the U.S. national indoor championship last month, where they won the 4-way Open Class bronze medals. All-male lineups, on the other hand, can only post their scores in the 4-way Open category.

All teams in the horizontal 4-way events (4-way Open and 4-way Women) perform the same eleven sequences from the competition draw. The same numbers and letters are also used for the 4-way VFS competition. However, while the notation is identical, only the formations and maneuvers of the horizontal 4-way events are the same; the 4-way VFS dive pool is completely different. For that reason, VFS teams cannot be included in the traditional combined leaderboard that the NSL News creates for the power rankings in previews and post-event coverage of the horizontal 4-way events.

Top 10 combined battle at Paraclete XP 2025: Qatar Lions (QA) - Echochamber (SE)
Combined 11th place in 2025: Echochamber
The teams behind the three medal winners of the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025 did not seriously threaten Aethers (FR), Arizona Airspeed (US) and NMP PCH HayaBusa (BE) in their 4-way Open Class medal positions or on the combined leaderboard, even though China (CN), Skywalkers Most (CZ) and Nephtys (FR) finished not far behind the Belgian national team in 4-way Open.

Two of the three teams just outside the medal positions were 4-way Women teams, China and Nephtys. Both will return for a rematch in the 4-way Women category and will also challenge the top 4-way Open Class teams even more strongly than last year. There is a good chance that the order at the top of the combined leaderboard will remain the same as in 2025, with the Golden Knights competing in 4-way Open instead of Arizona Airspeed.

The same six teams from last year's combined leaderboard will travel to Weembi Lille with exactly the same lineups they had in 2025. The progression of each team between April 2025 and April 2026 will determine this year's ranking order in 4-way Open, 4-way Women and on the combined leaderboard of the two horizontal 4-way events. Most likely, China and Nephtys will take the top two spots on the 4-way Women leaderboard and both will finish very close to the top of the combined rankings. The third medal winner in 4-way Women, however, will probably not make the Top 10 of the combined 4-way leaderboard.

NFTO in 4-way Open last year
U.S. 4-way Women team XPG4, NFTO (UK) and Qatar Lions (QA) will not return to compete at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2026. Dynos, who include one member of the 2025 NFTO lineup, are not eligible to participate officially at FAI/ISC events. This opens space for four other teams to move into the Top 10 positions on the combined leaderboard.

Sweden's Echochamber were pushed out of the combined Top 10 last April and finished three points behind Qatar Lions in 11th place. Echochamber are registered for the Indoor World Cup but are currently dealing with an injury situation. Coach Mattias Nord may have to step in again if the team decides to travel to Weembi Lille under these circumstances. Echochamber have consistently been among the contenders for the strongest amateur performance behind the medal winners.

Six teams are currently listed as contenders for the three available Top 10 positions in 4-way Open. With the two 4-way Women teams and Dynos included on the combined leaderboard, only one Top 10 position remains available—two positions if Dynos do not receive permission to compete in the FAI/ISC event. The six teams battling for these spots represent six different countries, and their scoring history suggests that they are closely matched, setting the stage for an exciting internal Top 10 competition across the 4-way leaderboards.
