Did You Know...

... that ten Rhythm alumni competed in AAA/Open/Advanced at the USPA Nationals?

Rhythm highlight at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020
posted Nov 10th, 2025 - The 1-year old lineup of SDC Rhythm XP is on the way up again in the rankings of USPA Nationals. It was a consistent upward road since the team project was launched by JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz in 2007. It began with a 16th place on the combined AAA Class leaderboard (Open/Advanced) at the USPA Nationals 2007, which turned into the 14th place and 4-way Advanced gold medals a year later.

The first competition in 4-way Open brought the 6th place in 2009, and the ranking position became better every year, 5th in 2020, 4th in 2011. JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz won their first USPA 4-way Open medals in 2012, with Thiago Gomes and Chris Farina in the lineup, Alex Bittner on camera. JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz then confirmed the 2nd place in the United States six times, first with Christy Frikken and Mikhail Markine (2013 - 2015), then with Doug Barron and Andrew Happick (2016 - 2018). The same lineup, now with Justin Wageman on camera, eventually won USPA gold medals in 2019.

Christy Frikken came back in 2020 to replace JaNette Lefkowitz who was getting ready to grow the family with daughter Sage. SDC Rhythm XP slid down to the 2nd place in 2021, when Arizona Airspeed took back the U.S. top spot, then to 3rd place in 2022. A new lineup, with Keith Conner for Carl Kallgren, had to leave the 2nd place for Hammertime in 2022, and for XPG4 in 2023. The next and current lineup ended up even without any USPA 4-way Open Class medals in 2024, for the first time since 2012. The USPA medal drought ended last month at the USPA Nationals 2025 when the current lineup, with Greg Oldendick for Keith Conner, stepped back up onto the USPA podium with the 3rd place.

SDC Rhythm XP - Rhetirement Redux at the USPA Nationals 2025
Rhythm lineups between 2007 and 2025
Back on the USPA podium: SDC Rhythm XP
Doug Barron is the only Rhythm member of the current lineup who experienced the athletic highlight, with the USPA gold medals in 2019 and the silver medals at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August 2021. He also continued when his team went through the lowest point with the 4th place in 4-way Open last year.

All three of his team mates at the peak of the SDC Rhythm XP career, at the USPA Nationals 2019 and the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, were present and active at the USPA Nationals last month when Doug Barron stepped back up onto the USPA podium with his current lineup. Rhetirement Rhedux featured Christy Frikken, JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, once again with Robert Compton completing the lineup, and with original Rhythm videographer Kevin Nafzger on camera.

The same Rhetirement Rhedux lineup had competed at the USPA Nationals 2024 and now confirmed the comeback from retirement. Christy Frikken, JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz had spent three years together before Doug Barron and Andrew Happick replaced Christy Frikken and Mikhail Markine. Doug Barron then spent the FAI Tanay Mondial year with Christy Frikken and Steve Lefkowitz before he began re-building the team in 2022. He will probably continue with his own Rhythm lineup, as Christy Frikken, JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz don't seem to have any athletic plans beyond the Rhetirement Rhedux.
