... that AA/Intermediate and A/Beginner Class teams combine for record numbers?

4-way AA/Intermediate Class awards at the USPA Nationals 2024
posted Oct 23rd, 2025 - The participation numbers of currently registered teams for the 4-way competition at the USPA Nationals 2025 are more than promising. The negative progression since 2017 seems to be history, and this year's national outdoor championship seems to be on the way to beat the numbers of 2022 (Skydive Chicago), 2023 (Skydive Paraclete XP) and 2024 (Skydive Chicago). A total of 58 teams have signed up for the horizontal 4-way competition, and registration is still open until Saturday.

As usual, the 4-way AA/Intermediate Class teams contribute most to the total number, even though this category is facing serious opposition with the new A/Beginner Class. 21 Intermediate Class teams are currently registered, which stops the negative progression in this category, as well. The big winner is the A/Beginner Class, which was adopted by USPA first time in 2021. This year's 13 teams are adding up to a record number after the introduction in 2021 with ten teams.

The total number of 34 teams in the two categories, who represent the beginners and recreational competitors in the 4-way events best, is higher than at any previous event since 2022 (31 - 20 - 26), and outnumber the 4-way AAA/Open/Advanced combinations this year (24) as easily as in the same previous time period (27 - 26 - 25).

USPA A/Beginner Class 2024 winner: CSC Singularity
The NSL Power Rankings of the 4-way AA/Intermediate Class competition indicate the potential of the teams in this USPA category only by participation in earlier events. The group of teams on the top level (magenta) have competed at previous USPA national championships, most of them in the same category. In fact, there is only one of these five teams that was in the lower competition class last year. CSC Singularity won last year's A/Beginner Class gold medals and had to move up to AA/Intermediate Class competition by the USPA rules.

The six other teams behind magenta in the NSL Power Rankings (yellow) have at least a scoring history of regional and local meets this year. The remaining ten teams have no scoring history in the NSL News records and have their new team names on the leaderboard for the first time.

The quick look at the USPA 2024 leaderboard seems to confirm that Texas team Spaceland Toxic could be on the way to win their first USPA Intermediate Class gold medals this year. Different Toxic lineups have competed in the same category since 2013, always with team project leader Demo McDonnell in the lineup. CSC Constellation XP had to move up to AAA/Advanced Class competition after winning last year, and XP Falcons have disbanded. Joy Jing and Flaviane Venditti are now both training and competing with XP Angels in 4-way AAA/Open. No other AA/Intermediate Class team seems to be strong enough to challenge Toxic seriously for the USPA gold medals in this category.
