Did You Know...

... that XP Angels and Platinum XP have a new duel on separate leaderboards?

USPA's 2025 Skydiver's Competition Manual
posted Oct 18th, 2025 - A total of 20 teams have registered at this point for the AAA Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2025, which is a combination of ten teams in 4-way Open and ten in 4-way Advanced. The 20 teams include Aethers Lille, the guest team from France and 4-way Women team XP Angels. The teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Advanced use the same AAA Class competition draw, while they win two separate sets of USPA medals.

According to Advanced, Intermediate, or Beginner classes are restricted to a maximum number of members who have won a gold medal in that class, or any medal in a higher class of the same event at any USPA National Skydiving USPA's 2025 Skydiver's Competition Manual, "teams in Championships, or in the same event at an FAI First Category Event, at any time in the prior five calendar years". The 4-way teams in the same categories are restricted to one previous medal winner. Without any issues with this set of eligibility rules teams can choose which of the two AAA Class categories they would like to compete in at the USPA Nationals. The U.S. national teams for world championships and world cups or other international competitions have to qualify in the 4-way Open Class competition though: "Competitors and teams qualify to join the U.S. Parachute Team based on minimum performance standards and the official standings in the open class at the most recently completed U.S. National Championships."

The traditional combined AAA Class leaderboards of the NSL News at any events allows teams and audience to compare the scores of all teams in 4-way Open/Advanced/Women who use the same competition draw. The combined NSL News leaderboard includes the first power rankings of the 4-way Open teams, while the Advanced Class teams are listed in reversed alphabetic order.

XP Angels at the Summer Classic 2025
Neither XP Angels nor Platinum XP have a history of winning 4-way medals at USPA Nationals and could have the option of choosing the category that they would like to compete in with other teams on similar performance and scoring levels. However, XP Angels are aiming at representing the U.S. delegation at the next outdoor world championship in 2026, which requires them to compete in 4-way Open. They did the same already with XP Furies in 2024 to qualify for the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025.

Platinum XP competed in 4-way Advanced at the same event last year, and both teams still became a part of the combined AAA Class leaderboard during the NSL News aftermath of the USPA Nationals 2024. XP Angels and Platinum XP then posted their scores on the same leaderboard of the Paraclete XP Summer Classic 2025, where the two teams had their own duel behind Golden Knights and Arizona Airspeed.

Platinum XP, one of the longest standing active U.S. 4-way teams, won the outdoor competition again, after they had not been able to keep up with XP Angels at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2025, where they both posted their scores on the 4-way Advanced Class leaderboard. The USPA rules do not apply at indoor competition, and XP Angels could still be nominated for the U.S. delegation and the FAI Indoor World Cup at Weembi Lille next April.

Platinum XP - XP Angels at the Paraclete XP Summer Classic 2025
PlatinumXP at the Summer Classic 2025
Platinum XP's Don Hurd launched his 4-way team project in 2014, after training and competing with other 4-way teams for a long time. The current lineup, also with some of the longest standing 4-way competitors in the United States (Scott Franklin, Bill Thomasson) and Matthias Kaminski of a younger 4-way generation, have been together since the beginning of the 2024 season and then met XP Furies/Angels for the first time at the USPA Nationals last year.

The NSL News covered the interesting duel between Platinum XP and XP Angels at the Paraclete XP Summer Classic 2025 with the update on June 27th, and then followed XP Angels on their way to and through the 4-way Women competition at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2025 comprehensively. XP Angels will go back from the separate 4-way Women leaderboard at Skydive Teuge to the 4-way Open Class leaderboard at the USPA Nationals to be eligible for the U.S. outdoor delegation next year.

This means that Platinum XP and XP Angels are once again on different leaderboards in Eloy. Both teams will still have their attention on the new duel on the combined AAA Class leaderboard, as they are back with the same lineups who competed at Skydive Paraclete XP in June. XP Angels travel to Arizona after a very intensive year of training, while Platinum XP are in the second year with the same lineup and more in tune, as well. It could become a much closer outdoor battle than it was in the past.
