Did You Know...

... that teams of the Northern California Skydiving League joined the July leaderboards?

Hair Speed with meet director Maria Sheets
posted Jul 16th, 2025 - Four teams from Northern California joined the Czech and British teams on the July leaderboard. Lori Connor completed the second NCSL meet of the year successfully, after the first one was completely weathered out in June.

AA Class team Hair Speed, who plan to compete at the USPA Nationals this year, battled with the two Czech teams throughout the four completed rounds at Skydive California. British team Nakama was out of reach for all other teams on the AA Class leaderboard. British RRR Class team Tummy Lovin' had more work to finish in the top position after three synchronized rounds with the teams from Northern California.

Lori Connor has also integrated more Rookie Class competition in her NCSL format, which has been a part of the Indoor Cloud League with the three different categories (RRR/RR/R) for over a decade. Inside center Karl Secks once again sacrificed his last name for the next interesting team name on the R Class leaderboard. Lori Connor had more details of the event at Skydive California: "Such an exciting day with the NCSL finally completing its first meet of 2025 this last weekend at Skydive California. You may recall that Meet 1 was winded out last month at SkyDance. It was a nice turnout with four teams total! One AA team participated and three player-coach teams organized from pick-up team registrations."

Hair Speed debriefing
"The coaches for the day were Julius Frank, Lukasz Weber and Karl Secks, all of whom had coached previously at NCSL Team for a Day events, where teams can receive extensive coaching and enjoy flying with a coach all day. The feedback for the day is that the teams loved their coaches. Everyone had a ton of fun and learned so much. Thank you all for coming out and sharing your experience and being part of the teams.

"Big thanks also to Maria Garcia-Sheets who served as Meet Director, all while busily jumping on her AA team all day. Also, many thanks to Jo Timmsen who came out to support the teams as the Judge for the day. She tirelessly judged the video in very warm conditions while dealing with some technical difficulties that had to be overcome so she could view some of the video. Skydive California was a wonderful host and super accommodating throughout the day with manifesting and tending to the needs of the teams. The DZ's sponsorship and support helps make these events happen and is so much appreciated. All the teams were able to get in their four jumps before it got way too hot to do any more.

"Last but not least are the camera flyers who are such an integral part of 4-way competitions. Each of your participation at the meet was so invaluable and made it possible for the teams to learn and compete. Michael Gregg with Hair Speed, Vlad Popov with Give Us a Minute, Nick 'Bot' Lennox with Break Off at Four and a last minute find for Rookie Mountain Secks with Julliano Debride. Thank you all for your support. "Let's get into the good stuff now - the scores and rankings. AA Team Hair Speed aka Err Speed had no local competition but scored 26 total points with their four jumps and had a 6.5 average. This ranked Hair Speed on the NSL leaderboard in 3rd place behind two Czech and British AA teams who used the same draw at their meets on July 5th.

Give Us a Minute - Break Off at Four - Rookie Mountain Secks at the July Meet of the NSL 4-way Network
Give Us a Minute debriefing
"Rookie team Give Us a Minute won 1st place in the NCSL local competition, with 13 total points for their four jumps and a 3.3 average. However, it wasn't quite enough to push the British Rookie Team Tummy Lovin' out of first who is holding on with a 3.7 average. Rookie team Break Off at Four was able to take 3rd on the NSL leaderboard, ahead of four other Czech rookie teams. Way to go NorCal.

"The debut of the NSL's R Class happened outdoors at this meet with team Rookie Mountain Secks. This is a new class for outdoors although many have flown it locally in the tunnel at our prior Indoor Cloud League events. This special class starts the 35 second countdown at the break of the first formation which will always be a Star (M), compared to other classes where the 35 seconds start at the exit.

"Rookie Mountain Secks had a full day of learning and progressed from zero points on their first jump to five points on Jump 4 and closed out the day with a 2.0 average. Special mention on this team is that it was truly a scrambled team with Karl Secks being the player coach, Bill McCray as the Intermediate/Advanced, Nicole Kreutzfeldt with 78 jumps prior to the competition, and Sarah Tang with 153 jumps going into the competition. "Thanks everyone for joining in on the NCSL fun for the day. Hopefully we see all of you at the next one at Byron on August 16th.
