posted Dec 8th, 2022 - Brazil's national 4-way team INIT-Y was next in the transition from outdoor to indoor competition, after HF Flying Circus (Czech Republic), Flyspot Sky4Four (Poland), Out Of The Blue (Netherlands), Echochamber (Sweden) and some of the French national team members.

Brazil's national indoor championship took place in the 12-foot flying chamber of iFLY Sao Paulo, which made the transition for INIT-Y even more challenging. They had completed outdoor training and competition in the unlimited skies over Skydive Arizona four weeks earlier before going back to indoor techniques in a 12-foot flying chamber.

INIT-Y have been going through some turbulent years, after separating the INIT-Y lineup from the CTR Optimum history, even though George Narita, Jorge Neto and Alisson Vargas continued together. Ricardo Pereira had replaced original CTR Optimum member Andre Ferraz in 2021.

The new lineup won the national championship title in 2021, defended it successfully in July this year and were qualified for the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 in Eloy. The lineup still changed again, as George Narita did not continue after the national championships. Netunos member Jean Joshua took the tail slot for the world championship.

The previous lineup was expected to be in contention for one of the Top 10 positions in Eloy, after an impressive performance at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 and the 16.2 average in July. However, INIT-Y with Jean Joshua for George Narita did not have much time to get ready for the world championship and found themselves eventually one point behind Sequenz from Denmark in 16th place.

The changes continued after returning from Arizona, as Jean Joshua switched back to his own team, the Netunos. INIT-Y still needed a new team member. They found Isabela Castro, who had trained and competed with AAA Class team Go Fly and other Brazilian 4-way teams in the past.

Isabela Castro had already filled an open INIT-Y slot at the March meet of Brazil's Tunnel League when Jorge Neto was not available, and INIT-Y posted a 22.0 average with her. Jorge Neto, Alisson Vargas and Ricardo Pereira invited her again to take the open slot last week, and the new lineup finished with a 25.1 average after the eight rounds.

INIT-Y had started with indoor training and the new team member right after the outdoor world championship, with Arizona Airspeed's Mikhail Markine coaching the new lineup.

INIT-Y at Brazil's Indoor Nationals

Result of the indoor training with new member Isabela Castro and coach Mikhail Markine was the 25.1 average, which matches the highest indoor number that any Brazilian team has posted to date. The 25+ scoring level would have been enough to make the Top 10 at both the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019 and the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022.

INIT-Y is now qualified for the next indoor world championship in Slovakia next April and a new opportunity to make the Top 10 of the world's best 4-way teams.

It was a very close battle for Brazil's top spot at the national indoor championship, as the leaderboard is showing a 1-point difference to Netunos in 2nd place. Jean Joshua, INIT-Y's substitute in Eloy, was back with his own team and challenged his one-time team mates to the limits round by round.

The military team has had more consistency with the lineup, and the training and coaching with INIY-Y member Alisson Vargas is showing serious results. Alisson Vargas has to be careful now with his coaching, as the 1-point advantage of his own team could easily turn into a 2nd place finish in the near future. INIT-Y have not lost an indoor or outdoor competition in Brazil since the separation from CTR Optimum...
