Did You Know...

... that the FAI Indoor World Cup has complete preview leaderboards?

Withdrawn: Pro Team from Finland
posted Mar 15th, 2022 - The field of 4-way teams for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 is complete, as the deadline for registration has gone by. There were a few changes, most of them related to the current political situation in the world.

The NSL News mentioned the absence of the seven Russian 4-way teams with the preview update on March 8th, after the official statement by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI).

The first update with the NSL Power Rankings in 4-way Open, after the removal of the Russian teams from all three leaderboards, was still showing a total of 29 teams in this category.

The 4-way Open participation was one team higher at the registration deadline, even though there was more activity before, especially on the 4-way Open leaderboard.

Three teams (Pro Team, Tribe, Honey Badger) withdrew, and the Pro Team from Finland was expected to claim a Top 10 spot. The second team from Finland, Tribe, would have been in a competition right in the middle of the 4-way Open leaderboard. Honey Badger from Croatia did not have any scoring data from earlier events in the NSL database.

Top 10 battle: INIT-Y from Brazil
The participation in 4-way Open still grew to 30, as four additional teams confirmed their registration. Belgium's delegation is now complete with two more teams (Ayro, Phoenix). Only France is also sending the maximum number of four teams to the indoor world cup. Russia had registered four 4-way Open Class teams, as well, who will not be allowed to compete in Charleroi.

The withdrawal of the two teams from Finland, including the Pro Team, would have almost guaranteed the three direct opponents at this part of the leaderboard (HF Flying Circus, Skydive Midwest NEXT, SDC Rhythm XP) a secure Top 10 position, while trying to get as close as possible to the medal positions.

However, a second team from Brazil will be ready to join this battle, which is probably for the 7th place, unless the French national indoor team and Pete Allum's Meraki lineup allow the very strong 4-pack to challenge them for the 5th place. INIT-Y, Brazil's national indoor and outdoor champions, are very well trained, after competing regularly at the indoor meets of the Brazil Tunnel League. They will be a strong replacement for the Pro Team in this expected Top 10 battle.

Withdrawn: NFTO
The British team Shaka was formed for the Weembinamic 2021, with members of four different teams. Phil Jenks and John Welsh came back with two members of Pajama Pumas (Derek Cornelius, Paul Willcock) for the British Indoor Nationals in February. Derek Cornelius, Paul Willcock and John Welsh now joined forces with Weembinamic team mate Elizabeth Kennedy for the indoor world cup.

The two British teams in 4-way Women (NFTO, Alola) withdrew from the event, which has more of an impact on the expected ranking positions than the Top 10 situation in 4-way Open. Two of the strongest 4-way Women teams in the world (Bubbles, NFTO) will not be present in Charleroi, and the German team Piteraq is now competing for medals.

The new French national indoor and outdoor team and the HF Cubs will probably battle alone for the indoor world cup title.

Only the 4-way Junior leaderboard has not changed after the removal of the two Russian teams, and all three teams will win medals. There could have been a 4th junior team, as Israel's IPC Delegate Ron Miasnikov and Joey Jones explained on March 13th. The Flyboys have to compete in 4-way Open, after 4-way senior Raz Malka had to replace one of the original junior members.
