Did You Know...

... that Jerry and the Jets were on the AAA top after Round 5?

SCSL Director Josh Hall with his event judge
posted Jun 15th, 2021 - The Southern California Skydiving League launched the 2021 season once again in the month of June, and only dust devils kept the five teams to complete all six rounds at Skydive Elsinore last weekend.

Main Street Jambalaya had won last year's SCSL season opener, and almost exactly the same lineup lifted Elsinore's home team's meet average to 12.6 despite a challenging competition draw. The five completed rounds included three slot-switching blocks in three different sequences, and each round included at least two blocks. Only six random formations were drawn for the same five rounds.

Main Street Jambalaya's 12.6 average was still not enough to win the AAA Class competition. Jerry and the Jets visited Skydive Elsinore this year for the first SCSL meet. Jerry Elliott and his three 4-way and 8-way world champion Jets (Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard, Dan BC), with Craig O'Brien once again on camera, were back in action last weekend.

Jerry and the Jets had attended the second SCSL meet in August last year. Skydive Perris was the host of the 2020 event, which served as a test for the team before the participation at the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships in October on Eliana Rodriguez' and Craig Girard's home turf in Eloy.

Jerry and the Jets in Eloy 2020
Jerry and the Jets' 17.0 average in October last year was heavily supported by two very fast sequences in the 10-round meet, and last weekend's five rounds in Elsinore were on the totally opposite end of the draw spectrum. As for Main Street Jambalaya, the winning 15.6 average of the Jets turns into a different value considering the competition draw.

The complete AAA Class leaderboard of the teams who took on the same June sequences in the United Kingom and in Germany provide an even more interesting opportunity to evaluate the performances.

Chimera, the British national team in 4-way Open, is on the same leaderboard with scores for six rounds. The adjusted leaderboard, with the totals after the five rounds that all participating teams completed, is showing Jerry and the Jets in 1st place.

Chimera had placed 7th at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019, where Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard competed with Airspeed Odyssey. Together with Dan BC they now guided Jerry Elliott into a tight competition with Chimera.

Chimera in Eloy 2019
However, Chimera finished behind Jerry and the Jets only due to the total of ten point deductions, eight after the first five rounds.

Only the penalties from the United Kingdom Skydiving League event were available, and it was the first meet for the British teams after a very long break of almost two years.

Main Street Jambalaya has exactly the same evaluation opportunity and can compare their scores with the other British team that competed at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019, Pajama Pumas. The SCSL team was four points ahead of the British team after Round 5.

In fact, only Main Street Jambalaya were eventually able to increase the team's meet average despite the challenging competition draw.

The Southern California Skydiving League has two more meets scheduled for the 2021 season. Skydive San Diego is back as a host for the August meet, and Jerry and the Jets have their next opportunity on Jerry Elliott's and Dan BC's home turf in Perris in September.
