NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that the Qatar Tigers included Shamrock Showdown rounds in their restart?

Live part of the Shamrock Showdown 2021 at Skydive City
posted Apr 18th, 2021 - The Shamrock Showdown 2021 turned into an extended hybrid cloud event when the weather in Florida did not allow the completion of the ten rounds in March at Skydive City.

The plan to include international teams via the internet was developed when travel restrictions and other implications of the corona virus crisis made it impossible for teams from overseas to visit the event site of the Shamrock Showdown. As a result, the format of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 became the template for the Shamrock Showdown Cloud.

The extension of the time-frame for the completion of all ten rounds was added after the live part of the Shamrock Showdown was over. Especially the 8-way competition then continued soon when the French national team and the Qatar Falcons submitted their videos and made the 8-way leaderboard very lively and exciting.

The missing six rounds of all teams will be judged and posted after the deadline on April 21st, and the results of the Russian FAI world cup champions of 2019 from Tanay are highly anticipated. The Qatar Falcons added their scores and videos for the first four rounds together with France.

Qatar Falcons at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018
The Qatar Tigers were also back in action recently. The NSL News had reported earlier how Qatar's Formation Skydiving delegation was isolated for a long time period in Qatar, without any access to indoor or outdoor training facilities.

Qatar's 8-way team restarted earlier with coach Jeremie Rollett, and the ten Shamrock Showdown rounds were a part of their restart agenda. Both Qatar national teams in 4-way and 8-way are aiming at medal positions at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August this year.

In fact, the Qatar Falcons are the reigning FAI bronze medalists after placing 3rd at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia. France did not have an 8-way team in Australia, and the Qatar Falcons are facing a significantly more challenging situation this year to get to a medal position.

The French 8-way team is leading the world-class 8-way field after four rounds. The Qatar Falcons have lifted their 17+ average level to 19+ in the meantime, and they hope to keep the progression going until Round 1 at the world meet.

NSL Live Talk with Qatar Tigers at Skydive City
This time it seems to be easier for the Tigers to win FAI medals for the Qatar delegation the second time ever. The Tigers have not won any FAI medals at a world meet yet and will try to follow the lead of the Qatar Falcons 8-way team. The NSL News reported the unique team story on 19 December 2020, when the Qatar Tigers visited Skydive City for a winter training camp.

Qatar's national 4-way team restarted with outdoor training recently in Empuriabrava, Spain. They also included the Shamrock Showdown rounds randomly in their training schedule. Scores and videos will be posted together with all new footage after the April 21 deadline.

The scores on the 4-way leaderboard will also define the starting point of the home stretch towards the outdoor world meet in Tanay. Arizona Airspeed have set a very high standard with the four posted rounds on the Shamrock Showdown leaderboard. Airspeed will not compete in Tanay, however, no other team in the world will score much higher, including the NMP PCH HayaBusa world champions from Belgium.

The Qatar Tigers and any other FAI medal contenders can use the Airspeed standards to measure their positions four months before Round 1 in Russia.
