posted Oct 13th, 2020 - NSL-TV now follows up with the meet videos of the Italian Outdoor Nationals that NMP PCH HayaBusa member Michele Silvi commented a few days ago. He was back in Italy to help top contender eX3MO in the battle with his former team Amnesya.

The first update followed mostly the progression and the dynamics of the 3-day meet, which ended this time with a 5-point difference. Michele Silvi mentioned during the NSL Live talk that the Italian teams are training and competing from a Pilatus Porter with a right-hand door and the challenging exits.

The meet videos of Amnesya and eX3MO are showing how difficult it is to launch the first formation of a competition sequence from the door of the Pilatus Porter. In fact, very rarely both teams even tried to launch the first formation of a new round, and they rather used a standard exit to leave the plane.

The Italian teams are not only losing precious working time to turn the standard exit formation into the first formation of the next sequence. It is even challenging enough to launch any standard formation from the right-hand door of the Pilatus Porter, as the videos are showing.

eX3MO and Amnesya at the Italian Outdoor Nationals 2020

Michele Silvi also explained the slot-switching implications, especially for the inside and outside center slots, and he took himself as an example. He used to be the Outside Center for Amnesya and piece partner with Chiara Brunetti in the point slot. He was literally outside of the plane for the exits when Amnesya were training from Pilatus Porter in Italy.

All teams who train from the same jump plane with a right-hand door then have to make a significant adjustment when they exit from planes with left-hand doors (Twin Otter, Cessan Caravan). The Outside Center of an Italian/French/Belgian team actually exits from inside the plane from a left-hand door, and the situation is vice versa for the Inside Center.

Videos of the reigning 4-way world champions from Belgium are showing Outside Center Andy Grauwels regularly exiting from inside the plane, while Point and Tail are still in similar positions from all jump planes, only facing the opposite way.

Michele Silvi is used to this exit procedure and the right-hand pattern of the pieces in block maneuvers. However, he is now the Inside Center for NMP PCH HayaBusa, which puts him outside of the plane for standard exits from left-hand doors. His piece partner is Jeroen Nollet in the tail slot.

Scoring history between Amnesya and eX3MO since 2016

The meet videos are showing the exits from the Pilatus Porter, and they feature the latest edition of the duel between eX3MO and Amnesya that has been a part of Italian and international 4-way competition since 2016. The history of this duel is also showing that eX3MO has been a much stronger opponent at outdoor meets.

eX3MO began dominating 4-way outdoor competition in Italy when Sinapsi PD discontinued at the end of the 2010 season. Placido Udine, Ivan Quadrio, Mario Fatturoso and Fabio Lorenzetti won their first 4-way championship title in 2011, with Massimo Fiorini on camera. They had trained and competed with eX3MO's 8-way team before and won a bronze medal at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2008.

It took five more years before new 4-way team Amnesya began challenging eX3MO and eventually took over the indoor and outdoor top spots.

However, eX3MO has always come back with a strong outdoor performance year by year, and they always gave Amnesya a good competition. It was the same again this year, when Amnesya's current lineup had to work hard to fend off the experienced outdoor competitors in the eX3MO lineup.
