Did You Know...

... that JaNette Lefkowitz and Christy Frikken have very similar world meet stories?

NSL Live Talk with SDC Rhythm XP in January 2015
posted Aug 18th, 2020 - NSL Live Talk with SDC Rhythm XP is a regular feature of the NSL News, and the team's new inside center, Christy Frikken, has been a part of NSL Live Talk many times, as well. However, the most recently published video (August 13th) came out of the NSL-TV archives and went back to the USPA Nationals 2008. It was in no way related to SDC Rhythm XP.

In fact, it has been a while since Christy Frikken had her last appearance on NSL-TV. It was in her last year with SDC Rhythm XP when the NSL News visited Skydive Sebastian on 13 January 2015 for an update at the beginning of the 2015 season.

Current Arizona Airspeed member Mikhail Markine was her team mate, together with JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, before Christy Frikken retired from 4-way training and competition on the top level, and before Mikhail Markine joined Airspeed in 2016.

Five years later, Christy Frikken is back with SDC Rhythm XP, and her comeback has been covered comprehensively by the NSL News. There was still a missing piece, as the updates of her comeback were based on public information and some commentary of her new team mates. Christy Frikken then accepted the invitation for new and up-to-date NSL Live Talk, which was recorded this Monday, after she had returned to California from an intensive outdoor training camp at Skydive Chicago.

Christy Frikken with Fastrax Blue at the FAI World Meet 2008
The second video clip is showing one of SDC Rhythm XP's first indoor training camps with Christy Frikken in the lineup. It took place not long after the tryouts for the open slot that the NSL News covered briefly on May 19th. It was the same story that announced Christy Frikken as the new team member.

Christy Frikken's 4-way history with Perris Fury and SDC Rhythm XP has been well documented by the NSL News.

The coverage of her Perris Fury career included the parallel development of the Belgian 4-way world champions of NMP PCH HayaBusa who launched the team project almost at the same time when Perris Fury was founded.

Christy Frikken will be the only 4-way competitor at the FAI Mondial 2020 in August next year who has defeated the reigning 4-way world champions before, twice at the World Challenges of 2008 and 2009. NMP PCH HayaBusa won the only outdoor duel at the Shamrock Showdown 2010.

There is still another chapter of Christy Frikken's 4-way career that has not been covered yet. It came to the surface during Monday's NSL Live Talk when the conversation turned to the world meet in Tanay next year.

JaNette Lefkowitz with Golden Knights at the FAI World Meet 2016
Christy Frikken is actually the only Rhythm member who has the experience of a world meet in her records. It was a very similar situation that brought her to the FAI World Meet 2008 in Maubeuge, France. The U.S. national team in 4-way Women, Fastrax Blue, lost team member Kelley Frederickson tragically a few months before the world meet.

Perris Fury member Christy Frikken stepped in and almost won her first gold medal at the FAI World Meet 2008. She switched back to Perris Fury after the world meet for the team's last meet with the original lineup at the USPA Nationals.

Her second world meet will have Christy Frikken compete in the 4-way Open Class, where she will try once again to win an FAI gold medal, this time against NMP PCH HayaBusa. JaNette Lefkowitz, who Christy Frikken has replaced in the inside center slot, had an even better story in 2016. She also stepped in on a short call for the Golden Knights and won the FAI gold medal in 4-way Women, then switched back to SDC Rhythm XP and won USPA silver a month later.

Christy Frikken now has one year to get ready for her second world meet, this time in 4-way Open, replacing the only other Rhythm member with world meet experiences. The job will surely not be easier than it was in 2008 or in 2016...
